Hi, why is it that when i play headphones through this cd player, i have to turn the output volume almost right down ? whereas playing back through the amp, it as to go back up to full volume again ? or is this normal when playing from cd players ? thanks , Martyn

Hi Martyn. That's surprising, as my experience with using headphones on cd players is the opposite - they're usually not loud enough! What headphones have you got?

Hi, now then are you ready, ha. i have these ,SENNHEISER HD 450 + 447 + 580 + PMX60 , + RS 120 s. AND GRADO, SR60 + 325i , see what i mean, anyway the 2 i use in the CD headphone output, are the grado 325 i + the SENN, hd 580. and volume is loud, to be honest i can,t turn it down enough. its ok through. but no control. unless i play them through the hifi amp instead, then i have more control. etc. But iv been led to believe that the phones should sound better direct from my cd ? also i hav,nt got to turn on the whole thing, i still need to find out about the headphone amps ? a couple on e.bay at the min, but think the price will shoot up. thanks, Martyn.

From Joe Thurston, Marantz
This is related to the sensitivity of his headphone. If the sensitivity is very high the headphone will be very loud and the other way around. The output level on the player is set to maximum each time you switch it on to guarantee best signal to noise ratio and full resolution. If you enter the headphone it will get the full level also and you have to adjust the volume.

Blimey Martyn, that's a serious amount of headphones you've got!! Always been keen to know what Sennheiser's 'phones are like. What would you say are your favourite? (comfort/sound quality etc..)

Just tried the Sennheiser S130 and S140 - both good, but in different ways. Check out the reviews section

Hi, Tom, ha, yes im a bit mad i know.. i also have the AKG 105 UHF, 60 pounds from Richer. i do use them alot, almost every day i have 1 pair on, as other half watches all her tv. etc. HARD to say which is best or which i like to wear most. As a couple are still abit new . But i do like the sound from the GRADO 325i , but you have to move them around abit on the ears. Also i like the GRADO SR60 for use at home on my port minidisc, sound very nice indeed,+ fit better at the min. But for portable outdoor use the SENN PMX 60 do the job. at 20 pounds all in. Still looking into a headphone amp at the min. Can get online the PRO-JECT headbox for 100 all in ,new. speak soon, Martyn
