John....you would be the hands-down winner...

John, I believe the UK is the only place you will find fuses in mains plugs.

There is no issue with safety as both my mains conditioners have RCBO trips built in and meet the regulations to be used on a cooker type mains spur that will handle a transient power draw of 23,000 watts without impedance, so it makes sense to get rid of the very thin single strand of wire in a fuse.

David Mellor,

If your system is balanced XLR'S are the number one choice, no fuss no bother they do exactly what it says on the tin !

Hi Electro head,

when you say you use copper in place of fuse, is that copper tube/pipe or solid bar ?

Show/hide user stats
Hello Electrohead, spot on mate,no problems,no need for fancy cables at any price, just fabulous sound, and my [as one salesman put it]obsolete Krell KA100M,s sound bloody fantantastic....Dave

Hi Carl,

Either will do, i use solid bar of the same diameter as the fuse and treated with deoxit d5, some people go one step further and solder the brown live wire directly to the pin bypassing the fuse and holder, but this to my ear makes no further improvement.

  all the best Electro.

Thanks Bill, but hardly an accolade for success, and to electrohead just how can a fuse affect the system when all the peak power required comes from the caps and not from the mains anyway. To Dave OK re the XLR's, but what do you think about SVHS leads as a cheap and good solution?

Dave Oliver I do seem to have an uncanny knack of dreaming up ideas at about the same time as others, unfortunately not before them but shortly after them, however it could be an interesting discussion point, and would liven up the forum!

HI Electro,

Will try out and let you know how i get on, all my system is linked to a mains protector,

After adding post on amount of metal in RCA plug thought about the speaker binding posts, my spendors have large metal locking nuts, used PTFE plumers tape on treads to isolate from nut then replaced nuts to lock cable, noticed subtle differance in sound, (note i said subtle) ? ... carl.

Show/hide user stats

Yea I bet that was subtle, I guess you put the PTFE tape on the threads after all.

John...

Hi John,

Yep Nothing better than tape on your nuts ? or post ? lol

Hello All,Hi Carl, how are you mate.you say your equipment is all linked to a mains protector,do you mean a surge protector???,everything on my system has individual surge protected plugs which is plugged into a 20 gang block[why,s it called a gang i wonder]as to the speaker connection i use Mitchel Banana plugs[why are they called banana.....they arent bent or yellow]ah well.Tape on yer nuts eh,sounds like this must be a Welsh thing so i,m off............Take care All........Dave

Hi Much/David,

Its all nuts and bannanas on this thread, yes i stand corrected mains/surge protector is what i use but not on me nuts ! 20 gang plug block do you use all sockets at same time ? - mine has only six sockets i try to minimize the draw on supply, yes the welsh tend to be nutty, but mainly fruity? - arnt -you lucky. ha ha !   - Your all thinking ? --- daves wife is "welsh"    Cheers ...Carl.

Hi Carl, fruit and nut should be the title of this post, and yes i,m extremley lucky with my Welsh Sex Kitten,or is that Tiger. No i dont use all the sockets at one time on the 20 gang block,it was just that s how it was made for me by either Bernie or that guy in Darley Dale[who doesnt like to be named on computers]was listening today at Blodwyn Pig,who i believe hail from the land of the Leek, not bad at alll, try listening somtime,if you are not too busy putting gaffer tape round your nuts that is,tut, tut, tut, glad my Welsh nutter hasnt got round to that...........yet.....Take Care Mate.....Dave

Gang imagine a gang of mates maybe four or six roaming the streets of Cardiff, that is were gang block comes from. now banana plug took a little more research but the better plugs used a curved metal structure to make good contact, that apparently is ware the banana comes in.

This site becomes more fun by the day... John...

Hi John,

Great stuff, talking about Cardiff gang blocks and banana plugs - a small town couple of miles away in the port of Barry - this was one of the major ports that saw bananas imported to this country ? hows that for a link ? - this town is one of the places that is filmed in the tv series Gavin and Stacy ? - some amusing facts.

Show/hide user stats

Great stuff Carl perhaps we should rename the banana plug the Barry plug, now that would put Wales back on the map

Now here's some thing that neither you or Dave know and that is that I am pro Welsh, part of the reason could be that I err met a Welsh lady some time ago, (stunning but we won't go into that) but the rest maybe is that my father was indeed Welsh and I love a leek, really lamb and leak stew was a great favorite, well that was before I gave up eating altogether, but now I just drink, that is maybe why I can write so much complete bollocks on this site, but what the hell at least I write.

Hello All,YeeEs WE HAVE NO BANANAS,WE HAVE NO BANANAS TODAY,i only asked where the term comes from, didnt know it originated in Wales, and instead of calling it a Bary plug maybe we should call it a Glandoclickyclickwotsitsbleedinname plug,John i think i,ll give up eating and take up knitting,no sorry boozing, lamb and leek stew sounds absolutly revolting, but i aint going to argue the toss over lamb.So you met a Welsh lady eh,so did i,though at times i wish i hadnt, she,s a mighty force when annoyed, and says thing in Welsh that i cant understand, but have you noticed, when they prattle on in Welsh, the swear words are in English,jabberjabberjabberf...offjabberjaberjabberf..off,makes me laugh i,ll tell you,why dont the Welsh language schools teach proper swear words then......Dave

HI All,

Dave, Wales up till the seventies was very religious, this was a law unto itself if you did not go to chapel you where considered an outcast, and villages where ruled by their laws, very bleak life !- Welsh language, this came a couple of centuries before the English language, hence -  religion/welsh =no profanities, What your other half is probably saying, is sentences like your a dick head, with English profanities thrown in for good measure, not being a welsh speaker myself, i can still pick out parts of conversations and under stand what they are saying - well to a point? My oldest lad speaks welsh, one day after telling him off, he ran upstairs shouting in welsh, i shouted back dont you call me that again, he replied with an apology and a look of shame, he had said the very same sentence?

Lamb and leak stew this in wales is called COWL this originally would have small amounts of dough or dumplings as the welsh call them, to make the stew go further, as most families where large with six to twelve children - No tv only chapel in those days ?

Cheers all hope i have not bored you all,  .....Carl.
