Hi Melanie You've chosen one of the artists whose music I can appreciate....like that one and Angels. He's sung with some very Big names...Maddona is one, Kylie Minogue and Nicole Kidman.....I imagine him as a bit of a Chameleon....changes style to suit the situation. Liked his retro songs too.

Hi Rik H, That is one heck of a list of powerful names....I'm like you tend to like a few songs and disregard the rest..... It's what makes Wotslices 20 albums so difficult to do...."consistency"...a rare quality.

Hi Wotslice, re-read your top 20's Album list. I couldn't resist listening to a few Elton John tracks. Friend had the "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" I had a 2nd-hand or possibly more "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"...Loved Daniel... I like them both and the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road..if I still possessed it would have been in my top 20's....listened to the tracks again and they are very varied but the charm of it for me....... This one stood out....reminded me of real-life boating....I am sure I have met some people - "beautiful but damaged" people who fall into this category and because you "live-aboard" everyone suspects you do too... .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eha2Wnq4Cc Thanks for the memory!

Its a rare album thats consistantly good throughout! Most bands have maybe 3 or 4 good tracks and the rest are fillers. Of course theres plenty of albums that ARE quality throughout, im just talking about the majority. Heres some Megadeth, I understand its an 'acquired taste' its more I just wanted to show you how unbelievably complex their songs are. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VSdaUmhqQEY

Hi Rik H, Great! song and your links work too! I love the song and the mythology behind it's interpretation....I'd go for the witches grave one.
|
 |
haha I was doing the links wrong (I really should have checked them!)

Hi Rik H You've got the newcomers excuse. I realised one of mine today is wrong...I can't re-edit that now either!..Oh well they'll cut and paste anyway...

Hi Tamara, Re Elton John, Goodbye yellow brick road is a double album and whilst I agrre it may have some good tracks, it fell way short of the "consistency criteria", if this was a single album then it would have been a better overall album IMO (depending on what was discarded). With regards to DSMIOTPP this is just better overal quality writing "have mercy on the criminal" is one of the best tracks on the album, and its not really single material. Again I like his early stuff including Honky Chateau and Tumbleweed Connection, but lost touch with him after yellow brick road rom an album perspective. Regards

I cant remember who but someone mentioned 'The White Stripes' a bit back. So for anyone thats interested, Jack White also plays in The Raconteurs (the second album is awesome) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GgWBhlH4mC4

HI Rik H, I think Bill mentioned them I'd just got "Icky Thump." (friends are fans and I thought they already had it. Hadn't and I have to lock iot away to keep it!) It is the strangest collection of songs and styles but it works for me....Haven't listened to any of the Racounters. I will now. Thanks

Hi Rik H, Who does that intro remind me of?.......
|
 |
Hi Rik H SUSSED IT....a few intro bars then IT'S Honky Tonk Woman.....minus the cowbell...give it a listen. That is really good...I'll give the rest a listen now thanks.

Thanks for that Rik This one seems to run a bit more smoothly....some You Tube links for some reason seem to suffer from "stammering".....hope this helps.... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CVot-9nGeAg&feature=related What strikes me about the White Stripes is that even when live, they generate such impact that there always seems to be more of them than just the TWO...

Hi Rik H The Dead leaves and the Dirty Ground is fantastic. Reading about it on Wiki they reckon he was going to use a softer version with an acoustic guitar....it would have paled into insignificance... I'll check out the album and site in a while.
