Hi Rik H, I thought I might be....It 's Offensive in terms of language which is a shame because a wider audience than his own age and culture might help him to be heard rather than nurse his grievance......Just sounds like teenage street talk.(generally, when adults aren't present)...raved and ranted ( a problem with rap). Rap is not a music genre that I truly appreciate. The most offensive thing was the use of a word to describe himself that I could not use without being considered racist!...That is an injustice! BUT the rhyme, rhythm and clever word play is exceptional. He limits his audience, through use of cultural phraseolgy and swearing......the shock factor only works if people understand, if they need an interpretor then it's lost it's ability to communicate meaningfully.....

Actually, that particular track is (far as I know) the only proper 'hardcore' one hes done. Its all style and no substance ~ but I love it anyways Heres an example of the sort of music he usually does http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=axtr-yL33os I think id better point out that Jay Z is one of the biggest selling artists in the world (And married to Beyonce!)!

Hi Rik H, Yes, I am aware of Jay Z's status....it doesnt affect my opinions. These are, of course, very subjective comments based on the music.....and how I would interpret it, how "the song" resonates in my being...... I found the first song more enjoyable than the second....."Hard Knock llife" which I presume is originally from "Annie" has become too "showy " for me.,,,I prefer the other one with an earthy connection. I am sure the first would find a more limited airplay than the second.

haha Cant argue with that. I dont think radio 1 would be ready for the volume of complaints if they played '99 problems' on the morning radio. reminds me of when they accidentally DID play Rage Against The Machines 'Killing In the Name Of' by accident which I think gave them the largest record of complaints to date

Hi Melanie All of the sixties sounds are there....some I only know from this forum. I've got youtube links direct. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKFrovGdI8U Walk Like a man They sing very high pitched. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhdGkZ6Fngw Sound of Silence You're right keep this playing....and again..and..... But visit the sixties sounds if only to spend a few minutes giggling...or thinking... variety of sounds that there were then are amazing.
Hi , I checked out the links last weekend. And playing Sound of Silence again and again... until my boyfriend was fed up with it But I must confess the other sixties sounds are not my cup of tea. I keep listening to the mainstream music. Although I like to sing Rhiannas "Umbrella" today

Hi Melanie, I feel like the Sixtes music is good in small doses...but that is probably true of all genres of music. I like most music but enjoy the variety of it. Listening to "Shake Rattle and Roll"compilation double album...iin isolation each track is wonderful but after two tracks I give up simply because the brain is tired of the beat....... I like Rhianna's Umbrella. It is an interesting song. Wiith a strange history of it's own. Rhianna's vocals and Jay-Z's word power (he wrote a verse for it) transformed the track. It was originally meant for Britney Spears..... What do you make of Corinne Bailey Rae? http://www.myspace.com/corinnebaileyrae I'm still listening and trying to assess it myself

Hi Tamara, A close buddy of mine at work is deeply into Corinne Bailey Rae at the moment. Also likes Randy Crawford.....and since he lent me one of her albums a while back, I can understand why. Vocal aristocracy this girl....

Hi Bill, Is Randy Crawford.."one day I'll fly away?" ? ....friend was born to that record...and it's one of my favourites.

Read through the lyrics and had a listen to the song itself. I understand that this song could be considered offensive. I guess by Christians in particular...but they are not the only religion to use crosses symbolically...indeed most do.
But I find the song interesting and not offensive. I don't know why they wrote it...perhaps need to research that...but I find the lyrics ring very true. The fact is that religion is often used as an excuse for war/fighting and the banner under which people rally to do so....and yet it is often true believers who refuse to fight who are killed or treated badly. I know too serious....sorry

Hi Bill, The Snow Goose is a indeed a enviable piece of vinyl...Spike Milligan is also a favourite from his Goon Days and poetry etc......I believe he's also done "The Bible according to Spike Milligan"....not read it. But have see "the complete bible" done at the theatre...a mickey take, hilarious and also very accurate to the real text...I could imagine the biblical characters really discussing topics just like they did.

Hi Rik, I am going to have to read through more of their lyrics...I even like the music...I like the way thet Epic allowed them to be maintain their integrity....that is quite unusual.

Hi Bill, I'd almost forgotten how good her voice is.... One Hello..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdwVNs0H5XE .is a lot of things I don't really rate....but she can do it well. Her voice does stretch but not screech.... Hi Bill, This is one of Randy Crawfords which I love. One Hello. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdwVNs0H5XE

Hi Tamara, Glad I had an opportunity to trigger some fond recollections Thanks for the link on RC..... The album borrowed was a collection of cover versions by Randy Crawford & Joe Sample called "Feelin Good". THe music comes across a good deal better than it does on You Tube......in fact it was the same person who lent me Joni Mitchell's "Blue". I always end up wishing the album was mine... Best regards, Bill.

Hi Rik H Bullet in the Head, which uses digitech whammy pedal pitch shifter and Wah wah pedal. to great effect Bomb Track, this is quite anarchistic but it does catch the angter at the system. Bulls On Parade, This is probably the best. I love the lyric " Weapons not food, not homes, not shoes Not need, just feed the war cannibal animal" Guerilla Radio...Love this intro
But I come back continually to the problem of sweariing...it robs them of airplay, commucation of their message and music....It's a shame because it is good. They pay a heavy penalty for that integrity...
