Hi BIll, This one is for you. Wuthering Height http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSed1K-QNMc&feature=related It is said that "The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain deserves its success - knighthoods at the very least for what they do with "Wuthering Heights" alone" Listen for his opening jokes....done as jazz....I am transformed by this!...Everyone's gone boss-eyed here (they don't know whether to watch them or me!)

Hi Melanie, I feel like the Sixtes music is good in small doses...but that is probably true of all genres of music. I like most music but enjoy the variety of it. Listening to "Shake Rattle and Roll"compilation double album...iin isolation each track is wonderful but after two tracks I give up simply because the brain is tired of the beat....... I like Rhianna's Umbrella. It is an interesting song. Wiith a strange history of it's own. Rhianna's vocals and Jay-Z's word power (he wrote a verse for it) transformed the track. It was originally meant for Britney Spears..... What do you make of Corinne Bailey Rae? http://www.myspace.com/corinnebaileyrae I'm still listening and trying to assess it myself
Hi Tamara, I know the song "Put your records on" but I didn't knew that it is by Corinne Bailey Rae. i really like this song and it always brings me to good spirits. I will listen to her other songs this evening and I am curious if they are alike Put your records on...I let you know

Hi Melanie, I like her music. She is likened to Billy Holliday...but I think not. She's too fresh a voice. I love all the music I've heard from the faster pop songs to the soulful ballad songs....all evoke a good feel. I have tried to find some recent news about her but since her husband died (March of this year) there doesn't seem to be any. She has just done a gig to commenorate a stage named after her husband.... This is the best performance of her that I can get: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhJKSseiPXE with John Legend and John Mayer...they're good too. http://www.corinnebaileyrae-fan.com/ is more informative than her own website.....

Hi Tamara, Absolutely superb (Ukelele Orchestra of GB)..... You were left with the feeling the charismatic George Melly could have done this far greater justice than their in-house vocalist. Having heard "Wuthering Heights" I couldn't wait to hear "Shaft" and it didn't disappoint My thanks for that..... Best regards, Bill.

Hi Bill, Listening to Blue Nile...I love this.....very gentle...absolutely adore "The Night Train".(very much like the music on soundtrack to City of Angels...I grieve..... also a little like Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan). Another temptation.... Found that they did work on Diva with Annie Lennox. She then covered "Downtown Lights" on her album Medusa.....small world. So thanks for that intro..... You're right George Melly was exactly the person to spring to mind....I have decided to buy Wuthering Heights....it's on Top Notch CD..or one other both available are only on their site I think. I've already got the CD that everyone stocks. They also do Life on Mars is great fun!. Fly me of the Handel too. both medleys and I am sure it's impossible.....(With your system you'll have a full house)

Hi, It is not a miracle that she retires from the public. Only 6 month ago.... I watched her performance and I enjoyed it very much. I like her voice and the way she sings. Hopefully she will start again after she can manage her life without her husband.

Hi Melanie, I was reading though some of the comments that people made about her...they said she didn't have stage presence. To me she has got a great voivce and may look a little timid but she is in comparison to the others a very newcomer to the stage and she has the voice s I am sure she will learn. Her husband was with the Haggis horns..backed form her (and have done for Amy Whitehouse). I wonder how this will affect her future.

Been listening to Kaki King http://www.myspace.com/kakiking Most of her tracks are instrumental.......known to instrumental music fans for her finger-picking, fret-slapping, and percussive thumping style.... I like her voice.

Hi Tamara, Just been telling Carl that I've spent over 2 hrs manually sanding a wall - now dehydrated and feeling a desperate need to keel over.... I must have looked like a biological warfare specialist complete with the face mask, goggles, earmuffs (I was using a vacuum to extract the dust - a bit noisy in a resonant space. ) Now my daughter is telling me she has homework research.... Acceding....but will catch up on those tunes above ASAP. Best regards, Bill.

Hello All,been away for awhile and have been trying to catch up on latest posts, firstly,i,m now out of the cast and in a support bandage,a whole lot easier,i,ve also had an eye exam and am waiting for the results[for the DVLC]Bill, what do you think of the Linn Lingo phono stage, been offered one for £150,but not knowing much about Linn thought i,d ask a Linn owner for his thoughts. The Gyro,is brilliant, got a load of albums from Bolton at the silly price of 10 for a quid, some were really badly scratched but 4 were almost new,Delibes Coppelia and Bruckners 7th are of amazing quality both in sound and condition,i also bought a CD,Fairport C 35th anniversary concert. How come you,ve manually sanded your wall, some sort of exercise perhaps???.Ive decided to get a decent M/C cartridge for the G,in the region of a grand or so,but as yet dont know what, whats this Denon one one you were telling me about,i,ve also heard nothing from Audiovenue,or that shop in Oxford,i also contacted Absolute Sounds but have heard nothing from them either, think its going to be a case of actually going to one of these shops, quite fancy Maidenhead, will keep you all informed.Tamara,hi love, well the boats coming out of the water monday for its inspection, and my ex and i are[subject to report]buying it together then having work done on the interior, currently it only two berth, but according to the guy we spoke to there,s room for a third in the bow section, and possibly the engine could be resited, anyway thats all to come. Not doing the wedding on saturday, she,s got some agency tog to do it,thank god for that.Off for my fix..........Take Care All...........Dave

Yay ! Great news Dave! At last you can scratch that itch !!! Didn't know you were going for an eye test mate, have your eyes been ok ? The Linn Linto until a few years ago was one of the very best phono stages around. I think it's been caught up now and there are a few alternatives for the same, or less, money......(I don't use a Linto but often considered getting one) There is a story that attaches to the sanding episode....will explain in the next post The Denon cart, although an MC, is cheap as chips but positively brilliant. (As Mike observed Denon superseded it with a few other models.) To improve on this cart you really are talking of spending in the region of £500 upwards. At the price you mentioned you are looking at mid-top of the range Lyra carts or ZYX or maybe the odd Contrapunkt..... On the subject of "Active Speakers"...don't want to put you off, but Meridian's active models are taking a hammering for being unreliable. ML make plenty of active subwoofers etc so are pretty experienced and the Dealerships seem to report no problems but I thought I'd mention that just the same Dave... Best regards, Bill.

HI Bill, Are you still around? What makes an RCD trip in the meter box if you've not touched anything on the circuit?

Sanding..... I have reservations about electric sanders... In my youth, when I bought my first house I decided to speed up painting of the front door (which was red) by using one of these (non-vacuum type)...... A transverse breeze was blowing so I thought there wouldn't be any need for face masks etc. A few intense clouds of red dust and a short while later I went indoors to wash my hands..... Upon looking into the bathroom mirror discovered my normally black hair had turned bright red all over, the black moustache I had at the time was also bright red, as were the eyebrows ......this I thought was really funny until I sneezed and bright red dust came out...and I coughed....and bright red dust came out................and that put me off for life (But made me a lot more careful ) Don't worry though..as this stuff probably landed on top of the heavy asbestos exposure I'd had a few years previously - so paint is the least of my worries !! The electric sander is a little too much of a blunt instrument and I like to control how much dust is created..... Sorry about the long-winded explanation
