Hi Tamara,

The Nirvana link was inspired !   Very funny.....so I'm not the only one who gets these problems....

Think of all the teenagers at the time who were out there "eating tables" in Diners thinking it was cool

I'm certain the Irish version of 'Tatos (Taters) would have worked much better

Cheers......................Bill.

Hi Dave, Christopher,

Dave...so Brenda is busy "sublimating" with the sound of her new speakers Thanks for the Review, I knew she'd like them....

Nice to see Maggies gaining increasing popularity in the UK market as they tend to work best in a large space with lots of clearance. In the US large lounges are less of a problem.....so 5ft or 6ft clearance around the rear of the speaker is easily achievable but less likely over here. The 1.6s will be more room friendly I would think but it would be interesting to hear the Manufacturers setup recommendations.

You mentioned sonic differences between High-End and midrange Turntables? I think the answer is the Law of Diminishing Returns Dave i.e. to get say "10%" increase in quality you would pay 100% more.....although the figure of 10% is completely arbitrary and may even be less than that.

This is why most people can own a midrange T/T and be happy

Hello Bill, agree with you there mate, but i wouldnt consider my Gyro as a mid range T/T,that is till i saw this monster of a T/T from C/A why,s it so big???and whats behind the thinking with that really deep platter, seems completley OTP[IMHO]still can,t figure out how adding a power supply upgrades my Gyro from Gyro to Orbe without any modifications whatsoever, beginning to think its "snake oil".You say these Maggies need plenty of room, well she has them in the conservatory, about 18 inches or so from the glass, and on two paving slabs[one each]about 7 feet apart and they sound,to her,not bad,we,re off today to the monumental mason to get some black marble slabs or if not, dark blue,.Looking at her now dusting them with her Blushing Brush, she,s gonna be there all bleedin day......Take Care Mate.........Dave

Bill/David

I think if I were spending big money on a turntable I'd go for one of these; Simon Yorke.

I believe the Library of Congress uses one.

The best I ever heard was a Voyd but I don't think they're made anymore.

David, I wonder if the tonearm you mention was a Morch or a Naim Aro

Hi Chris H

I enjoyed listening to Kate Walsh.  http://www.myspace.com/katewalsh

Like  "Talk of the Town," and this is from her mespace site:  " the first single off her second album, Tim's House, the twenty-four-year-old singer-songwriter blasts the narrow-minded bullies in her native Burnham-on-Crouch"

Hi Dave,

Love the idea of sitting and taking picctures that early in the day.. Get the boat and get really close to the action.....It is perfectly idyllic and reach locations that very few others have seen.

Hello All,Tamara,if i need to get really close to the "action"i have a camera with a telescope adaptor,i think its called a refractor, very heavy, what with the quadpod, tripod, refractor, cam body, flight cases etc,and to focus you need to have a lap-top,the results are stunning, but its the setting up,and with me not being able to drive.....well its a problem.Processed those shots from yesterday, stunning is all i can say,Jane wants me to print one onto canvas,30x20 inches for framing as fine art photography, somthing i,ve never done before, but she[typical] has, with the intention of selling them, and "quote"i,ll get a share, which considering that i took them, processed them, printed them, framed them,is very good of her........jeeze.Bill you mentioned about the attic being busy, well about two years ago we were going to transform the attic into two bedrooms, had it boarded out, electrics put in,plumbing, and plastering done, had a dormer window fitted, two actually, and there it ended.we decided that the current 5 bedrooms was enough,so untill we get another silly idea,it,ll remain an attic, whats in there, doesnt make a dent in the space there is,got those KEF 104,s as well as RTL4,s plus a few bits and bobs,my gun cabinets are in there, massive great big thing, made of steel,7x5x1.8[w.h.d.]with three chubb multi lever sequential locks, and an internal alarm system in case anyone should try to break into it.Tamara, ordered some Vanilla F from Play.Com.you still havent got an address for me,whats happening love???if you dont want it,say so love,i wont be offended, not heard from Carl on this site for awhile, bet he,s off in this sports car, showing off his legs again,Gawd the life of a sex god...........Take Care All..........Mush

Hi Dave,

As you can probably tell from yesterday's posts. very tired and postings not my usual style.. very abrupt.

Sorry Dave, no offence meant at all.  There are some locations and shots that you can only get if you're on the water and experience wildlife that is so wild that it has no fear of humans....and no squabbling for feeding either just naively curious.  But you're probably right you can get as good a shot without that closeness.  Quite envious of the equipment that you have and the ability to turn it into art!

I'd love the CD. Re. address will ask friends if they'll let me use their's...it'll take a bit of time. At the moment I am barely awake combination of new tablets and friends have signed their lease but the strain is starting to show now.  I am worn out and distressed and that is simply being supportive on the end of a phone.  Then Friendly plumber came back yesterday about 10.30pm bearing gifts of chocolate etc... and we had some catching up to do...so up half the night chatting about his Welsh adventures.

Carl was around the other night on his Pirate thread....but yes I miss his musical interludes and humour too!  I guess you're right he has wheels   (not sure about heels) and will travel....I am in the same boat as you..I daren't drive under the inflluence of these tablets which is a bit scary for the future...I am hoping I'll build up a tolerance to them.

I am reading about your attic....you probably got it done just before all the new regs which are costing me a fortune with the sound, insulatation and flood defences.  They are a constant headache to work out what they really want done.  With lofts the head room and the void between ceiing and roof has altered.Makes most impossible now.

Haven't listened to Vanilla Fudge  but have asked around for Tangerine Dreams Le Parc  I really enjoyed Yellowstone Park.

Take care

Hi All,

Still  here looking over your shoulders and taking in the conversations and of course the music links, thought i would give my gob a rest and let other members get a look in  on thread, i am of coarse enjoying my new wheels, and feel quite proud and privileged to have them, makes a nice change to have something new, without having to have credit. thats enough of my gob for now, take care all.....Carl.

 Hi Tamara,

Thanks for the Carmine Appice link, I didnt realise just what an influence he was as Bonham's sound always impressed me.  Also, the track "superstition" I never knew it originated from a Jeff Beck lick, you learn something new everyday eh?

Regards

Hi Wotslice,

Thanks for those encouraging words. That program had the same effect on me...I'll be buying a whole new range of CDs.

The more I learn the more I realize I don't know...

Hi Bill,

Been listening to this

Brett Anderson "Wilderness" album : http://www.myspace.com/brettandersonofficial

classed as Indie/alternative...piano and strings, quite classical music....and the lyrics are a much gentler dreamy "Kate Bush".... Chinese Whispers is the track that sells this one.

Hello Tamara, sorry if i,ve put pressure on you love, take your time with the address,it,ll be here when you,re ready,i,m also putting some photo,s on a disc for you to peruse, perhaps give me some pointers from your proffessional eye,i,d let you have some of those i took yesterday, but now that Jane has seen them.......well they come under the official secrets act, been trying to put the one she wants onto canvas, but so far have cocked up five sheets, can,t seem to the get colour balance,Jane,s coming round  to sort it out,she thinks i,m using the wrong inks. The computerised camera equipment isnt as expensive as it sounds, but you do need a DSLR body, any will do,and on E you can pick one up for about £50-100,all you need then is a tripod adaptor, that fits your camera,s body, and fit the camera body[only] to the adaptor, whap it on a tripod...........and awaaaay you go,total cost if you get a body, tripod, camera adaptor, telescope,i,d guess under £200,then process your work later on your home computer,i only use a lap top because i,m a smart arse,it,s not a requirement really, try it.Just been informed that her ladyship has arrived,if i had a forlock, guess i,d be pulling it,been looking on Play.com for Tangerine D,god there,s loads of em,as well as well as Kraftwerk, going to look into them later, got the Smalll faces on the T/T "Ogdens Nut Gone Flake"brilliant, especially Itchycoo Park............not as good as Yellowstone park though..................Take Care...........Mush

Hi Dave,

Yeah, some things don't go that eary.... it's learning curve iis probably steeper than the ability to stay sane. Good job you've got someone to help...

I am listening to the Ogden's nut gone...really good.

back soon
