Sore one mate...!!! You've reminded me of my most unpleasant ever experience with a hammer. "Cold Chiselling" 3" dia mild steel bar is not a task for the faint hearted and requires a particularly heavy hammer.....
If you've never tried this before it's an old established Fitting technique for quickly removing large amounts of steel...in the right hands probably nearly as quickly as machining.
The key point is that whatever your eye focusses on you will hit with the hammer, and if you hit your hand you will kill it stone dead, so it requires 100% concentration and awareness only of the chisel head. It must have been tiredness and my eyes only strayed once (I was 16 at the time - just a young lad).....I gave my hand the mightiest wallop ever...and killed it.....
It seems to kill both the nerves and the muscles so there's no chance that if you put the chisel back in your hand that you will ever retain it - it simply falls out of your grasp again. THe instructor assured me, "The feeling will come back in time....."...he didn't say how long though...
Hello All,had to go out for a few last night, couldnt stand being in the same house as those two,so i went out for a few beers,to calm down, got a takeaway for the three of us and came home only to find they had gone, the shopping minus the booze was plonked on the kitchen floor, her car,Janes car,MrBenji, some of her clothes gone,i rang her up to find out what was going on only to told to go and f..k myself,so ok.if thats how she wants it,so be it,she pulled a trick like this about 18 months ago and was gone for 7 weeks till her money ran out,and like an idiot i took her back, well as of 23.03 last night her debit/credit cards were cancelled, and i,ve left a message on her phone that if the car isnt returned by friday,i,ll report it stolen, all this through that rotten bastard Jane, always knew she was trouble, well the "partnership" is going to be dissolved, its not like i need the money for christ sake, you live and learn.Off out later to sign some papers at the bank, then going to get some ingrediants for a volcanic curry, going to have to use taxis though as with not being able to drive due to this diabetis,i,d be at the mercy,s of those big red things called buses, and i dont want that...........Take Care All.........Dave.......ps where,s J Fisher???
That's a shock! Didn't realise it was that serious. I understand your stopping the cards etc. to protect yourself.....I'd even go as far as changing the locks. Let them ask to be let back in.
Please do me a favour and let me know how you are. Remember to take your insulin and be careful, shocks and stress can play havoc with your blood sugar! Have a sweet with you at all times in case you need it.
I was thinking the same thing about John Fisher.....Reminded of him because Radio 4 had an interesting programme which touched upon the connection between music and emotional responses. Had a knack of introducing some interesting comments despite his abrasive manner...or is that manners?
Pianist Peter Donohoe is one of many people whose lives have been shaped and changed by hearing and playing this technically demanding, emotionally turbulent piece of music. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/soulmusic/pip/0w230/
He made several interesting observations:
He tells of his mother destroying a record which reduced him to tears as a young boy he kept rebuying..It was probably this piece but without relistening (which I may do later i can't be certain but think so). He remarked that the recognition of beauty, joy and sadness are closely linked and a response to music. (reminded me of Electro's comment.)
He played this when his mother was in a coma and hours from dying and didn't respond to anything or anyone...but murmurred the name of this when he played it!
I hope somepne plays music to me if I am ever in that state...that definitely have to be following this thread to find out what!
Im glad you like Iona. You should write reviews of albums as you have a knack of giving a picture of what the music and album is like. I enjoy reading your reflections - the only problem is Im tempted in buying some music you recommend.
Yer I was wondering what happen to John too.
Hi Bill - you seem to like your music too.
This credit crunch seems to affecting everyone - we had on our television news about the English banks having trouble.
Thanks, I love music and words...and probably ought to give it a go....
Re the temptation to buy.
First, I check out the music online but then the sound can be distorted..making it either really appalling or appealing and sometimes totally misleading.
I am lucky. If possible I request hem from our library and loan them for a while. If I still like it after a few a repeats I'lll buy it.
Most outlets will let you listen before you buy....but I'm not sure about this where you are.
My personal collection is sadly depleted since several rapid moves and living on a boat didn't exactly encourage their long term preservation.....
I am building it up again. Have several very good friends who are only too happy to share their Cd's with me and beg or borrow them from family members etc. One has offered me the whole of her collection but I haven't been able to transport it yet!...it's a huge box trapped under the stairs in a cupboard with mounds of debris..no! collectables on top.
The library here will call from the whole county and has a wealth of cds but often the most popular and rarely american...but very useful
Wrote this out quickly yeserday and saved it instead of posting..think I was hoping to run through the whole list.....
Maire Brennan ; Misty Eyed Adventures, The Mighty One...These are soft and haunting ballads....a chill out session. She is uncannily similar to her sister. (wonder if this went profesisonally in her favour or not?)
Keb Mo is blues like I like it. Easy on the ear voice is soft and gentle too which helps. I often baulk at the male singers voices simply because the emotion isn't always carried well...ie too overstressed or sounds insincere BUT he's got it BABY BEAR's you know just right!)

"Am I Wrong" is perhaps the best track if only because of the simplicity.
Thanks for that one: tempted almost beyond redemption by that one!
Hello All,firstly let me say thanks for the concern as to my well being, and Carl, there,s nothing that bitch can do to hurt me,we were not married, she,s got no comeback, though maybe she should be the worried one,her free ride has ended,as for Jane, well ive discovered that she,s nearly 60K in the red,had a lucky escape with that one, been trying for months to ditch em both, too soft hearted for my own good,or so i,m constantly being told.Got a mate coming round tonight with some of my motorcycle buddies, one of whom is now a reverand, cant imagine Charlie as a Reverand, talk about culture shock, wonder if he,s still got his Indian Brave, everyone seems really concerned about me,but i,m a big boy now,and how the guys in the pub found out is beyond me,i,ve already had four offers of dinner,i aint going to starve, and Tamara, tut tut, dont you think that changing the locks was the first thing i thought of apart from stopping her gaining access to my assetts[spelling]Well got to go out again to get more meat for this curry, not going to have enough for this lot,and i,ve just remembered that its wednesday, early closing, sod it,i,ll take em all for a ruby.Bought that CD by BTO"Not Fragile" only like one track" Blue Moanin"ah well, ringing a friend of mine up tonight[yes a female]not too sure of the time difference, she lives in Roanoak V.A.,so i,ll ring about 11,think i want to see her again, know i need to see her.............Take Care All.............Dave
Hello Tamara, yes love i,m taking my insulin, and am not in the least stressed out, more relieved than anything else, though i do miss MrBenji, but this rotten so and so knows this, like she also knows or thinks she,s left me in a bind, not being able to drive due to my D,big mistake on her part,i,m fine love, got a lot more friends around me than i thought, and not just after what they can get,in fact i,m getting in touch with a friend who runs a taxi firm in Buxton,to open an account, problem solved 24-7,saw him today in the pub, cheeky sod said he,d have to do a credit check on me,think he,s got a short memory, lets just say that i afford it..........Take Care Love.........Mush[to my friends only]
Chopin's Ballade is another excellent piece interpreted by a legendary performer. A touching story too...one wonders what his Mother originally felt about this music and if it was a loss for her? Life changing either way.....
...sounds as if they've done you a favour anyway. Glad to hear you're OK and positive about the future. As you said when I was struggling, remember I'm here for you....only a blog away you could say
Yes....the credit crunch is biting hard on both sides of the Atlantic...
I've been studying the effects of the recent financial turbulence on the exchange rate of the Euro to determine what effect it will have on the final price of my new turntable (sourced from Germany) which I've been waiting for since June 08.
Normally I would insist on paying the originally advertised price, but given that the chap who operates the franchise is an Engineer rather than a salesman - and a very good audio engineer at that (and whose margins are tight), I'm pleased to accede on this point, especially given the forementioned Credit Crunch....I'd like him to stay in business if possible !!
Latest : For quite a while it was looking like I was going to have to pay a higher price but the trend has reversed and I think he owes me money now
Yes, I listened to that piece this morning and it does immediately affect the emotions...iI am going to listen again to the programme because it evokes more questions than it answers about life and music.
I hope John Fisher is reading this and joining in even if he's not online with us.
