Hello All,had to laugh tonight, she caught Mr Benji sniffing the Maggies, and he got told off, just sat there looking up at her, then wandered off into the garden to have a gypsies up against the tree, tell you i think that dog and her have some kind of language going on between them, mind you,she said a relation of hers was a witch................makes you wonder, and i aint gonna mention shrouds.......Take Care.............Dave

Told you Dave.......Mr Benji's thinking about it...

Has anyone else's dog been in contact with the speakers!

Is it possible to rub "scent off" up the sides of the cabinetry

This reminds me Carl's guardian angel story......I had a similar experience when standing in a City bus shelter. A stray dog wandered into the shelter beside me, and something suddenly compelled me to take one fast step forward at the exact instant a jet of urine shot into the space where I'd been standing.

Not life threatening but....close call

Good job it missed, otherwise your wife would have thought you were on the piss

Hello Bill, got those black marble slabs tonight, and they look pretty good, pity that they dont improve the sound of those Maggies, but she,s happy with them.Been in touch with Mitchel, well i sent them a E but havent heard anything back, cant get it into my head that a power supply upgrades my Gyro to Orbe,it doesnt make sense.Listening to Mozarts Symphony No 39 one of my real favorite symphonies, and Herbert Von Karajan,s interpretaion really does it justice,i,ve got it on CD with Sir Simon Rattle and i find the tempo a shade fast, this to my ears is beutifull, and through a "decent" pair of speakers......well its sublime.............Take Care Mate...........Dave...ps havent heard from Tamara, hope she,s ok

Now Dave I would like to ask you a question about sound reproduction and that is an explanation of the word 'fast', what exactly does 'fast' mean, I somehow think that to define the word somehow defines the question so what exactly is 'fast'..... intrigued..... John...
Show/hide user stats
Hello John, what i meant by fast was the tempo of the music,on the the third movement of Mozarts S39 some conductors tend to increase the tempo of the music whereas some take it slower......Dave

Thanks Dave, however I hear the word used to describe amplifiers, speakers and dare I say it c....s, I can fully appreciate your meaning, but I fail to appreciate the reviewers use of it.

Out of interest have you tried 'the sugar test' or the 'salt test'?.... John...

Hello John,What reviewer??? and whats this about sugar and salt tests???.............Dave

Hi Dave,

Hello Bill, got those black marble slabs tonight, and they look pretty good, pity that they dont improve the sound of those Maggies, but she,s happy with them

You should post pics....I'll wager they look superb...

Hi John,

I think what Dave refers to is the "perceived speed" of the music ? If the effect is very pronounced it can make certain tracks seem like completely different renditions of a known and loved piece.

I've known quite a few modifications that have caused this effect. Just my tuppence worth but it seems to relate to the balance of bass and treble within the room and the degree of accuracy of bass frequencies (e.g. loudspeakers could also be frequency doubling) and the extent to which they influence system dynamics?

With a turntable, merely changing the mat can bring about audible differences in tempo.

It is an interesting subject....

Kind regards........................Bill.

Sorry Dave looks like I misunderstood you too....

For a moment I thought you were comparing the same item on both CD and LP.....

Apologies for that....

Show/hide user stats
Hello Bill, what i was saying was that the symphony sounded like the conductor had increased the tempo of the piece on CD whilst it sounded more natural on vynil, and not "rushed"i wasnt comparing the same piece of music,by the same orchestra/conductor on vynil and CD,there,s not much point really, both sources are excellent in their own right, and we,d be here all night if i did try to compare the two, lets just say that i enjoy both sources for what they are...............Take Care.......Dave

Hi Dave, my use of the word reviewer means anyone who reviews, no one specific here. The 'sugar test' is a simple test to determine if you can hear the sound of a spoon of sugar in a cup of tea, that's all, a simple sound test of ones hearing ability................... John...
Show/hide user stats
"a simple sound test of ones hearing ability"....................because Dave ~ Its SCIENTIFIC FACT that if you CAN hear it then you have absolutely PERFECT hearing
Show/hide user stats
No anyone with completely average hearing will detect the difference, if you can't hear half a spoon then you have no absolutely no right to talk about Hi Fi............ John...

Hello All,understand now,yes i can hear a spoonfull of sugar/salt,though at times my upper register is getting hard, but its not a problem.........yet...........Take Care..........Dave
Show/hide user stats
Hello All,just reread the statement by Mr F"if i cant hear a spoon of sugar then i have no right to talk about hi-fi",just who the f..ck do you think you are then pal
Show/hide user stats
Calm down Dave, what I suggested is a simple non technical test of ones hearing, within a background of Hi Fi. Now in my simplistic but logical view of life, if one cannot hear the difference then should you be recomending Hi Fi producs, that is all, nothing personal. Example if I had an interior designer here telling me about the subtleties of colour and then learnt that they were actually 'colour blind' would I still listen to their advise... John... PS what I like about the test is that anyone can do it and no technology is involved!!

Hello John.Sorry mate, took it the wrong way, been listening to Tangerine Dreams Poland on Brendas hi-fi now that the speakers are wired correctlyand jesus what a sound these Maggies give out,so much so that i,m considering getting a pair and replacing my TDL referances with them, got some thinking to do mate..........again sorry John...........Take Care Mate..........Dave
