Thanks Pluto

After rotating the aerial to get the signal readings I mentioned I have now re-autotuned the digibox.

The picture quality on all channels is superb, so its signal quality that really matters not strength?

Hello All, John as been absent for a while I hope he is OK as the forum does not seem the same without his technical opinions about everything on here. Hope he is OK and has not fallen down the stairs in a drunken state. No insult meant John.

Dave Olive, will I get banned from this site for using the word drunken. I hope to come to your next cable test as I believe there was free grub and booze, I will do any thing for a nosh even leave a friend at a wedding north of London. Regards Gerald

Absolutely. One of the nice points about things digital is that it's fairly easy to check the data integrity. Signal strength is neither here nor there, it's the data integrity that counts. You cannot do this when the format is analogue. In the analogue world, signal strength and quality tend to be taken as one and the same thing. They are not of course, but the only way of determining signal quality is indirectly, by assessing the pictures or listening to the sound. Sometimes, measuring instruments can be more precise at these tasks than human senses.

In the digital world it is very easy for the receiver, CD player or whatever to determine the quality (not strength) of the data, and this is what counts.

As long as your signal quality remains high enough in dodgy weather conditions, you have a result

To all of you who are missing John Fishers erudite comments on this mode it is possible to see the ones that seemed to be hidden by looking at one you can see from the past and click on the top left hand corner where it says the number of posts and all his exciting posts will be revealed, so now we can stop watching TV and have some real entertainment. And all of you who were worried about John's well being can relax he is in fine fettle. By using this method it does not indicate which thread any post was on but if you go to the bottom and click on debate this in the forum then you will get to the forum of relevance.  Regards Gerald
