The topic of mains noise is a thorny one for many of our readers, evidently throwing up as many questions as answers. Although it's generally accepted that mains filters and power cords can provide a purer sound for your hi-fi...

Why? Brand snobbery? Not expensive enough? No mention of the imaginary EMI rejection?

Too DEAR for starters!!

mostly though, no braiding

RIK,

Don't know what it sounds like I have never heard it, but if of all places  Maplin sell specialist mains cable and clearly state it improves sound quality and the reason why, it may be the evidence we need to convince John, Pluto, and Fred, as this is their Holy grail retailer!

Not being especially serious but trying to inject some humour, Electro.

Yeah I know ~ THATS why im dragging it down even further

If the MIGHTY Maplins have failed them I think their world might have collapsed beneath them

DEAR and MAPLINS in the same sentence......who would have thought..............

and the absolute KILLER for me ~

They actually sell the mains conditioner that everyone raves about (And I lent my mate before he bought one himself)

and the REALLY hurtful thing?? Its about 8 quid dearer than what I can get em for

So thats DEAR, MAPLINS AND MAINS CONDITIONER all in the same sentence

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Checked that out and first it is a reasonable price, secondly it is marketed very much to the scare mongers amongst you, and thirdly SO WHAT it is a mains block, that's all, a mains block. A few sockets connected to a simple filter no magic there, what is the point you are trying to make???

If there's a market then Maplin would be daft not to exploit it.

With so may mugs around it's silly to deny them the opportunity to waste their money in their stores. If they make a big profit from foo they can sell stuff for sensible folk even cheaper.

Point I was trying to make there was (Bar the fact its currently at a 'sale' price), It CAN be bought cheaper and Maplins are selling an item that the 'none believers' just dont comprehend!

So, your saying a 6 block adaptor at 40 quid (usual price) with a filter on that (according to you) does nothing is worth the money when you can go by a cheap c*appy one for about 3 quid (Minus the filter of course but as it makes NO difference.....)??

"A few sockets connected to a simple filter no magic there, what is the point you are trying to make???" Im not even sure of the question your asking John but if its what does it DO? ~

You see!! Placebo effects can be bought at a reasonable price. i bet you could find a much cheaper foo mains lead if you looked. That's the great thing about foo products. You only have to believe they work and they do. Magic.

The Tacima could remove a few pops and clicks but improve the sound or picture? Nah.

It's a very good idea to have a surge limiter too. Even I have one of those on my computer, a Belkin. Doesn't make windows run any better though.

Fred...John?

Seriously......im completely bored of this now. In fact if you read everyones comments I think we're ALL bored of it now. Same old same old saying exactly the same things over and over and over like no one BUT YOURSELVES are allowed to have their own opinions.

Well im sorry but the 2 of you are completely wrong in that fact. EVERYONE is allowed an opinion and ive stated mine (WAY more than I should really).

So I know what IM doing about it anyways...................

So you're allowed your opinion but we're not allowed to contradict it with facts.

Is that what you're saying?

Hi Electro,

You said :

"Don't know what it sounds like I have never heard it, but if of all places  Maplin sell specialist mains cable and clearly state it improves sound quality and the reason why.......Not being especially serious but trying to inject some humour, Electro"

Greatly enjoyed this.......it brightened my day.
