The topic of mains noise is a thorny one for many of our readers, evidently throwing up as many questions as answers. Although it's generally accepted that mains filters and power cords can provide a purer sound for your hi-fi...

Fred was barred for general rudeness, his only contribution to the site being his attempts to wind people up. I won't be inviting him back, but of course you're welcome to invite him to your own site John.

Not sure what you mean by impartiality, but if posters are consistently making a nuisance of themselves, they're not welcome here.

Dave, I'm beginning to understand the cable conundrum. Whatever Fred said he said, how you or I interpret it is our perception, you see him as rude, I see him as entertaining and technically sound.

As you well know I don't have a site for discussions but maybe I could start a new thread here, the 'barred ones'. By impartiallity I mean we all have opinions and you seem to dislike any opinion that can be backed up by science and proof whilst you enjoy opinions that keep the nonsense going.

Note on any thread that does not dissect cables I still only write what I believe, but that rarely annoys you or anyone, check out 'what valves', despite a nag about SS I still researched the subject and offered the best I could.

I think Fred Scuttle was intelligent input and therefore should be here to state his point, when it comes to rudeness then IMO Rik H has been as rude as anyone on the site but has never received a warning, only today I was accused of being a TROLL and a link to teach me what a TROLL is, is that not rude.

As I've said on other threads my interest is to discover the truth, repeatably and scientifically and I can't do that simply by 'watching the show', no I have to join in........ John...

Hi John,

I wont comment on Fred but in Riks defence you did come across quite aggressive towards him at times. I must say I have commented back to you in respectful language and you have got fired up with f words etc which i did not appreciate.

Sorry John but you need to be aware of how you come across at various times to people (with different points of view to your own) which dosent help your cause in whatever you believe about cables.

Steve.

Hi John,

John said :

Hope you don't think you're being ganged up on but I feel you are being a little harsh on the MC (Dave Oliver). He maintains a discreet distance almost all of the time and only moves in when social chaos threatens. Indeed there are times when I've felt a Moderator would be appropriate but Dave has tried to be over-polite by not butting in ?

Personal insults have little to do with technology and I've always maintained that you shouldn't say anything on-line that you wouldn't say to their face in society.

I dislike seeing anyone banned least of all Fred (apart from maybe Gerald who really wanted to be - because he already had 10 other active identities on the Forum)

Kind regards,

Bill.

Hi Steve,

Look back carefully and you will notice that I was not the first to use such language, OK I do sometimes lose that awareness at 03:00 and at T5. Please understand that I don't have a cause, I am only out to find a reason, a truth if you like.

Note that Rik H was the first to start calling me names, Mr Angry, then Dr Evil and I've since been a Luddite and today a Troll, is it any wonder that I get aggressive.

John...

Hi Bill, first everything I have said I would do so in public and directly face to face, I am not one to hide behind a website, despite several black eyes for public discussions.

More importantly though are facts, you state:

I dislike seeing anyone banned least of all Fred (apart from maybe Gerald who really wanted to be - because he already had 10 other active identities on the Forum)

Please check out the past, he actually had only 2 other identities, now imagine if this level of disinformation were applied to cable claims then just how far from the truth could we be???

Hi John,

Not so disinformative as you think....

Actually I've counted 5 so far (which are known, 2 of those were barred.  6 if you include his real name) ....10 I admit was a rough guess....(or maybe not  as there are a few I'm deeply suspicious of, but not getting too hung up about it )

All the best.................Bill.

Hi John,

Thanks for your response. I know you have got a bit of flack from people - I hope Ive been respectful to you at all times.  Hope you dont mind humor though. In Aussie there is a saying when a person is over persistant on particular issue, or when they go on and on about an issue (this case cables) we say they are like a dog with a bone. (they never give up - tenacity). I say no more.

I suppose in the end it does not matter who starts or fiinishes it - we shouldnt allow ourselves to become aggressive or use abusive or put down language - it becomes like children squabbling and it kind of leaves a yuck feeling to the forums which I could imagine stops people replying on the forums.

Im sure you don't want that to happen. Just to let you know I nearly stopped at one stage, as i never experienced such heated debate on a forum before.

It would not be an easy job to be a forum moderator, it would be hard to please everyone, when to speak up when not too, I think you should allow him to do his job without questioning whether he is been impartial or not - it sounds like your trying to stir the pot a bit.

Im wondering if you are been mischevious trying to get him to react to you.

I don't want to say anymore on this issue.

Have a good day

From the land downunder.

Steve.

No thanks John, we won't be setting up a section for 'barred ones' – as it is, if you're barred you can still see messages from barred members, but the rest of the forum can't.

The only reason I haven't barred you already is because you've made some good contributions, but when you get on to cables you can't seem to stop being offensive, especially if you're approaching T5, so I'd prefer it if you didn't discuss them here any more. Of course I've deleted your response to Rik H on the Introduction to HDMI thread – if you think a post might be offensive, don't post it. Or do post it, and you'll be barred.

More often than not, your posts swing around to exactly the same points again and again. It limits discussion and stunts the growth of the forum by putting people off, especially when you have a go at new members (and yes, that's my perception).

Your arguments have been well considered but very, very repetitive – if you want to make the same point about cables again, just refer people to your past posts.

Bill, you're right, I enjoy robust discussion, and I think most people should be able to handle a bit of banter, but when it gets offensive, and starts actively dissuading people from joining in, it's outlived its usefulness.

Hi everyone, It's strange that Rik H has not had a slap on the wrist also?

All the best Mick.

Dave,

More often than not, your posts swing around to exactly the same points again and again. It limits discussion and stunts the growth of the forum by putting people off, especially when you have a go at new members (and yes, that's my perception).

Well doesn't anyone, after all we all believe what we believe, Rik believes that a mains filter will correct EVERYTHING, is stating one's beliefs not what discussion is all about?

When I joined this site about a year ago I rarely heard anything of you, now you pop up daily to offer a warning, tell me, have you been promoted from 'moderator' to 'censor', a discussion must have different sides or there is nothing to discuss, eliminate free discussion and you effectively eliminate the purpose of the thread!

This thread is headed 'mains leads' so it seems in order to discuss the matter and that is all I am discussing, one side of that I believe is 'mains leads' have absolutely no part in the sonic or AV experience. Tell me is it unreasonable to express that belief, I often wonder just what you personally believe.

John...

John, find another thread please, discuss another subject - your contributions on cables are repetitive and often offensive and they're not welcome here any more. Could I be plainer? I'll not be removing any of your past posts, and you're free to refer people to them, but if you keep discussing this subject in future I'll have to bar you.

My own opinion on cables is in the feature on the blind cable test which I wrote - no mystery there.

Mick - I've asked Rik not to get riled about the subject of cables, as I did with John. So far, Rik has obliged, John has not.

Show/hide user stats
Dave what else could I discuss on the many cable threads? This one, interconnects and blind cable tests, you claim Rik has 'obliged' but I have not, so how come a massive reply to Pluto tonight in which he again states the same, OK in a slightly different manner but the same nevertheless, notice how Pluto basically says the same again and again, notice how Fred tried to offer a little truth again and again and notice how Rik offers 'mains conditioning' as the panacea of everything again and again.
