Not that anybody here participates in file sharing but I've recently read on the bbc website that eDonkey has overtaken bit torrent as the most popular file sharing method.

I though eDonkey was like kazaa, soulseek, limewire etc and just a simple p2p system which would appear to be a step back from the advances of bit torrent. Does anybody know the advantages of eDonkey? Does it have better security features or something?

Not really too familiar with edonkey mate, but did you hear about the legal case Kazaa just lost, which ruled the owners of Kazaa were 'urging' users of the program to breech copyright. As such they have been instructed to change the software within 2 months to stop copyrighted material being swapped.

This has got to be a landmark ruling likely to change the p2p world. Its always been just a matter of time before all the 'free' content available over these networks would come to an end and perhaps that time is approaching sooner than we'd imagined with rulings like this.

Bittorrent all the way for me.Best by far and relatively safe. Kev.

edonkey much much faster, bit torrent much better quality plus you dont really get undesirables hitting you with viruses so much.

eDonkey is faster than bittorrent, really?

On bittorrent I have stuff whizzing through at 90+ kbps when there's plenty of seeders - is eDonkey able to do better than this?
Show/hide user stats
90+ wow!!! i struggle to get 6kbps, got any idea what im doing wrong?
Show/hide user stats
Blimey that is s - l - o - w ! What speed broadband connection do you have?

I had 1mb and that got me around 60 - 80 kbps and Iwas recently upgraded (free of charge) to 2mb and that provides me with those ridiculously fast d/l speeds! An album in about 15 mins sometimes, not bad!
Show/hide user stats
not bad! bloody brill i say,i have around half your speed if i could download at 30kbps i would be happy, i manage to get this speed with limewire but that site generaly sucks.
Show/hide user stats
Hmmm, strange that ol' bittorrent doesn't go faster. Perhaps it has something to do with the bittorrent application you use? What do you use - persoanlly I use Burst which can be downloaded for free here:

Burst bittorrent client

Interestingly when I occasionally use limewire I only seem to get speeds of about 10kbps max!

i use bitlord so ill give your link a try, cheers, funny that your limewire is slow if you go to mininova you can get limewire pro for free which enables what it calls turbo charged connetion
Show/hide user stats
Ahh that'll be it then I reckon the fact I don't have the 'pro'.I think I'll grab it. At least then when I start it up I won't be hassled to buy it.

You've got to love the irony that limewire which facilitates free downloads offers a 'pro' version at a premium to make some money only for other p2p's to offer it for free download!
Show/hide user stats
yeah funny that, i only got pro after my 78 year old neighbour told me where to get it which makes it even funnier.
Show/hide user stats
Ha ha, no way! Most 78 year olds don't even know what the 'interweb' is, so thats brilliant - I hope I'm still up on things when I'm that age.

Yes I know my photo makes me look that age but it isn't actually me and I can assure you I'm considerably younger!

yeah, when i bought this house i got chatting to him and hes got £20,000 worth of gear and said for me to play as loud as i like as long as i turned it down by midnight, i wish all pensioners were the same so im quite fortunate as the otherside are stone deaf BEST HOUSE IVE EVER LIVED IN!!!
Show/hide user stats
Carl have you given burst a go yet? Did it make any difference to your bittorrent download times?
Show/hide user stats
hi euler, there was a problem with their site yesterday and couldnt run the prog, ill give it another try this evening. did you get limewire pro?
Show/hide user stats
Nah I haven't had chance yet - I got back from work about 7, gym at 730, back at 915, made food, watched without a trace, slept! I'll try to d/l tonight but probably won't be able to have a proper play with it til the weekend. Curse this bloody rat race!
Show/hide user stats
quit the rat race and deal on ebay, ive done all right this year although i seem to be buying more stuff for me than to sell, dont wanna buy a load of b&o do ya
Show/hide user stats
What b & o stuff specifically?

Can you make a living through eBay? I have actaully considered it, whats the situation with tax etc though?
Show/hide user stats
i think they are looking into this tax thing, my missus is an accountant so ill get her to look into it, she will understand. as for ebay i advertised my supercharged honda valkyrie i inherited, got no takers then a bloke from wales called me, said he saw it, drove to sussex and payed 6900 cash.
i got a beovision5 plasma, pentas, beolab 6000, dvd1,light swithes, and a brand new beo4, er indoors wants the overture for the bedroom.
