Come on Fred you are going beyond the reasoning of a single cell organism here, negative feedback does have some little known downsides and a rather important one here is that it may reduce overall harmonic distortion but it does do it at the expense of the higher orders, so just by adding more feedback to a basically bad design may make the numbers look better but will certainly not improve the overall sound. High order harmonics really do sound atrocious and are sonically worse than a couple of percent of second or third, now lets talk real design.

Well just been reading some of the comments made  by John Fisher with regards to anyone who spends more than £10 on interconnects is a idiot and that they have been ripped off.

Well I beg to differ. I bought interconnects with the promise that if i wasn't happy with them I could return them and have a fulll refund. With nothing to lose I bought them (KImbers),£322 for a .5 metre length. Listened to the music, (didn't do any electrical measurements on them), noticed more detail in the music, more natural sound and better soundstaging and started to  go through my Cd collection.

Was very impressed so I bought 6 sets, mind you over a period of time. There is is no way I would have bought them unless there was a big difference in sound quality . Just wonder if John has listenend to expensive interconnects,or is he the sort of person who would say a Musical group was crap without ever listening to their music.

Now I've replaced those interconnects with Staight Thru, which were around £70 a set and sold the others on eBay . Wished I heard these before i bought the Kimbers.Have come to opinion that dearest is not always the best, but must say there is a big difference in some cables.

John is entitled to his opinion but he should not slag off anyone who disagrees with his views.

Cant say as ive ever heard of them Jeremy. What improvements over the kimber were there?

I use these now ~

HGA Silver Lace

These really are unbelievable interconnects. I read a review by some guy that they blew away his kimber that cost over a 1500 dollars (Unsure when this was but I think we can safely say well over 700 quid anyways) . The difference to my system is astonishing!

Jeremy,

I bought a pair of straight-thru i/cs about 18 months agi and I couldn't detect a difference on my system between them and my much cheaper Van Dammes. I wrote and told the supplier as they made a big deal about customer feedback. I've been offered a free pair of there new range of i/cs as they said they were now "used" and out of guarantee,  funny that when you had to "burn then in" for over 30 hours so at what point do they become used?  I have detected differences bewtween  cables but the Straight-Thru just didn't do it for me. I use the Van den Hull Thunderlines which do make an audible  difference although  not always a difference for the better depending on the recording/mix.

Regards

The Staight Thru cables are sold on eBay.

For John some info on them,

Type1 single core solid silver with gold hf layer. Wound signal ground.

Termination Gold/Teflon Straight Thru RCA ( didn't do any electrical testing on them, just used my ears )

To wotslice, well sad that they didn't make a difference to you but they did for my system.

To Rik H, the advantage over the Kimber Ag was Amazing, better base, clearer mid range, clearer treble and better sound stage. My friend came round to listen and went on my computer ,logged on to eBay and bought 5 pairs that evening.

Have not heard HGA Silver Lace, but glad that they made a difference for the better. Would love to try them but think I will stay with the Straight thru. For financial reasons, got to draw the line somewhere

Absolutely. If someones truly happen with their system, why tinker with it?

Hi Jeremy, you quote 'Type1 single core solid silver with gold hf layer', now I would like to ask two simple questions, first just what is the meaning of that statement, what is a gold hf layer and what do you believe it could do. Now second, can you, simply by stirring a cup of tea hear if it has sugar in it?

The reason I ask is that if you can't recognise 'second' then 'first' is completely irrelevant.

Hello John,

if you click on the link below and then click on one of the leads you can read about the design and reasoning with regards to Straight thru connectors.
