hi ...got myself a bit of a nightmare ...i've recetly been buying myself a budget, but hopefully good, surround set up and kinda hit a brick wall.

i've purchased the cambridge audio 540V2, with the cambridge audio dvd 86 with a pair of mordaunt short 914s, a 304 as my centre and a 308 as my sub ....i know this sounds like an advert for richer sounds but it does sound very luvly and the asthetic appeal is 2nd to none.

the problem being i need a pair of surrounds and been looking at the 302s for a number of reasons ...i have quite a small room so the sub will take care of any bass issues i might have and the size of them as they will tuck right up in the corners as my sofas are pushed way back againsty the wall! not an ideal set up i know, but have to make do!

any info on other good surrounds out there would be much appreciated!

I'd suggest staying with Mordaunt-Short would be a good bet. Otherwise, you might get a different tone as sounds move from front to back.

Another trick might be to place the speakers high up along the side wall, not the back wall. This would mean one of two options... either using the 302s as you suggest, placed in line with your ears when sitting on the sofa, or the more expensive 903i placed about 1/3 the way along the side walls to give a more diffuse surround sound. If you go the 302 route, try turning the surround channel down a notch, to make it less obtrusive.

Many will disagree with this last statement, though.

thanks man, i decided to go ahead with the 302s, i've managed to agree a 14day reufund ability, so i'm going to try run them in as much as possible and make my decision later ...probably day 13!!!

i'm pretty surpirsed so far, for being such dinky speakers they do seem to produce a luvly sound!

Nik, I use the Mordaunt Short 302's as surround back pair in my main 7.1 system and I have nothing but praise for them. I agree that they can pack quite a punch for such a wee package and for the six months or so I've been using them I have been very impressed.
I got mine from Richer sounds too.
