Hi,
I'm thinking of buying this as a compact alternative to my separates hi-fi system.

Would anyone recommend this or a better alternative?
Regards,

Paul.

As a second system, these systems (include similar Denon and Onkyo models, too) are fine. You might want to consider upgrading the speakers, though. It's surprising how good these systems can be, if you swap the speakers for a pair of £100 speaker boxes or similar.

I recently bought one with Wharfedale Diamond 8 speakers and would recommend it.Apparently the Onkyo sounds better but the Teac has the front mounted USB for ipods which is very useful.

if you just want more hardware great- if it is superior to your present system
look at NADs equal then decide.. If you have a good system- SPEND YOUR MONEY ON SPEAKERS- THE WHARFEDALES SOUND LIKE
THEY ARE HAND MADE IN THE SAME FASHION AS A FINE INSTRUMENR-THEY NEED A BIT OF POWER
BUT THE SOUND STAGE & FLOOR WILL OPEN UP YOUR EARS- THEY MUST BE POSITIONED PROPERLY
BUT WHEN SET UP YOU'LL WONDER WHY YOU PAID SO LITTLE FOR HAND MADE QUALITY WITH DEEP
NATURAL SOUND ON ALL TYPES OF MUSIC.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.

A hi-fi salesman has told me that this model has a timer so that I can set it up to switch on a radio program at any time and automatically record it to MP3. Is this true?

Regards,
Paul.

Hi Paul,
sorry for delay in replying but just returned from holidays.Salesman is correct.the teac has a timer that you can use to record any source and it has the facility to record DAB radio direct to your ipod.Regards,David

Hi,
I am also considering buying on of these systems with the LS-H255 speakers. Anyone got any views on these speakers? I was led to believe that the this system was not compatible with the iPod, i.e. you are unable to use it via the USB.
Also, I have read in places that there is a fault in the timer software so that it does not work as you would expect. Has anyoen had experience of this?

Well - I just bought and then returned a CR-H255. Everything was great - but the noise of the CD motor hissing and whining while playing CDs was unbelievable! I'm no audiophile purist - but it was noticeable even when several feet away from the unit. We tested the display model in-store and it was the same. Way way louder (2 or 3 times louder) than the Onyoko and Denon units that were similar. Even a v.poor Amstrad unit made less noise. I'm so disappointed. I loved it, but couldn't live with that CD noise.

Hi,

Same comment as Rob Napier. I just bought one and I noticed the noise of the CD motor. You can hear it during a song especially when the volume is not too high.
For this price we can't accept this kind of issue.
I have decided to bring it back to the shop and swap it by a Denon DF 102.
Just to make sure : Is there someone who has noticed the same problem on the Denon?
Cheers

I have a CH-R255 and after initial problem with noise (not the CD), I have not had a problem. Must have been a bad batch!

My only problem with the unit is the "blinking" indicators showing secondary stations for DAB Radio4 and 5 Live and the hum ( earth fault?) through the speakers when using my turntable. Both drive me mad!!

Any thoughts/ ideas appreciated.

I would like to add my opinions of this CD/Receiver or similar model (CR-H220). I have had the CR-H220 for several months now and I could not be more pleased with its performance. The amplifier's noise floor is extraordinarily low considering price paid (60 US dollars) and it came with the speakers, which are the most horrible creation ever. While mine was a refurbished model, I have had no problems with it at all. The CD player in it is noisy, but I use my Toshiba SD-9000, connected two one of three auxilary inputs, for more critical listening. The CD player in the Teac is obviously not of the highest quality and it does emit noise that is introduced into the amplifier signal when the motors are going.

If anyone plans to get one of these CD receivers get an efficient set of speakers to go with them. Wharfedale is one English brand that comes to mind that has some pretty efficient even loaded speakers. I am using my Teac to power some Boston Acoustics HD10 large bookself speakers which are 90dB 1watt/meter in a medium size room, where I can reach levels of output that my ears start to disagree with after long term listening.

Hi Peter,

link: to manual : http://www.teac.co.uk/manuals/CR-H225(E).pdf

You will have to initialise the settings hold the function fm mode button whilst on standbuy for 4 seconds, hope this helps. Cheers,     .......Carl.
