Well, I have, had experience of Arcam products for the first time 10 months ago.  I purchased the A80 amplifier which went goggle eyed at me after 8 months, on putting it back in the box to take back to the dealer I found that everything was sliding around inside.  The dealer offered me my full refund but couldn't replace the A 80 because they finished manufacturing them in January this year.  So I was forced to have the A90 so that it would match my Arcam CD 192.  This has cost me an extra £255 which I feel Arcam should waver under the circumstances.  On receiving the new A90 I found that the volume control knob was like a buckled bycicle wheel and the finish to the casing was a rougher and an inferior quality to the Arcam CD 192.  On initial listening over a couple of weeks there is no difference in the quality of sound to the A80.  flyin.raifuz hope this answers some questions.(and probably more so if you are thinking of buying or selling one).

I don't know about Arcam, but if your looking for a new and beutiful sonic expereience, then check out some new technology, class 'D' or 'T'.

I recently showed off my mini class 'T' amp, the one in the picture, to the managing director and designer from a real 'top end' speaker maker. To say that he was impressed, that is an understatement, to say he went into 'rapture', now that is nearer the truth.

He was in fact so impressed that he purchased said unit from me, there and then for £250+VAT.

Coming from a man with thirty odd years in the Hi Fi trade, selling speakers to the BBC, China and Japan, then I believe his kudos.

If you are interested then checkout my website 'www.fisherproducts.co.uk' or e-mail me, I will soon be producing these in quantity. Or just come and hear one in Barnet - North London.

Yea right on Mick, I doubt if your Arcam will ever 'fall to pieces' as I've no doubt it is good gear, but there is a subtle difference between good and exceptional.

One thing I have noticed in the AV equipment front is that most significant improvements come from a change in 'method' or 'technology' and no great differences come from trying the perfect the 'already perfected', hence my interest in class 'T' and the idea of a new completely digital amp, to include digital crossover filters, and power amps all in the digital domain.

Even the volume control would have to be a shaft encoder as there would be no analogue part to the chain. The control would have to input a digital number to scale the final outputs.

If I can do it then all would be 24bit 96KHz , way beyond our start point of 16bit 44.1K digital stream.

What do you think, is this a venture worth pursuing, would you pay, say £8000 for a complete CD to a 'music in the room' solution, speakers included?

Even if you wouldn't, then I will still try and do it for myself, I love a challenge.

John...

PS for all the techical crap that gets talked, you like nearly all, enyoy a good 'fart' great, maybe we are all from the same planet after all.
