Spending large sums on Hi Fi seems a big variable, to-day I visited a dealer, who in the past has demonstrated Quad ESLs to me. With the purpose of buying a CD player,
I was looking for a small unit and it was suggested the Cyrus & Quad were the only two.
We set up and listened to the Quad CDs-99, good, I then sugested we forget the small bit and try any other full size players, all demonstrated via my Tripath 100W amp and ESL 2805s.
The Cyrus unit he did not have but we did listen to three players from £600 to £3000 and I have to say I heard no significant differences.
But having gone out with intention and left the shop with nothing, I called in on Tesco and purchased their £22.97 mid range DVD player, and even that was an improvment over the Sony CDP-710 that I wanted to replace, it is also neat and small.
So beware price is no indicator !!!
