i have recently finished the exhausting proccess of putting my music collection on to PC - where they are currently playing through some rubbish freebie 5.1. (probably MDF based) speakers - so light they nearly float. What do i need to ensure a quality sound package that will last me for a number of years? I would like to be able to link both PC input and DVD input (optical only unfortunatly) and how little is a cheap set up?
I feel like one of those idiots that asks me 'how many gears does your bike have?', but these are my first tentative footsteps into a complicated technological world :(
And do let me know if you know of a good 3 peice jazz band based around guitar, double bass and drum :)

Acoustic Energy's P5 is pretty good and has both optical and coaxial digital inputs (as well as three line-in analogue stereo options) for £500 - there's a full review in the AVR Reviews section.
As for guitar-led jazz bands, not sure about trios but Nguyen Le's doing some interesting stuff (though he's also got piano and woodwind, and er, no bass) - or are you looking for one to play in?

hmmm, as a guitarist my self id love the opportunity to play some jazz - but i know the local music scene quite well and i need a few more years of practise before i can keep up with the talent of the guys that own the music shops and some of the kids around here.
do you know if theres is there a minimum price point that i shouldnt pass when looking for budget systems?
cheers for the reply too :)
