Hi

I'm a newbie to this site and I'm looking for some advice from the experienced forum members as to which amp / receiver I should buy. I was considering the Sony SONY STR-DA1200ES or the Pioneer VSX 1016. The Pioneer is probably favourite as I already have a Pioneer Plasma 436 XDE. However recently my mind has been wandering towards the Pioneer 2016, but this is about £160 more expensive than either of my original choices. Also the only diferences seem to be ipod connectivity (nice but not vital) and audio provision via HDMI. As the main two components I will connect via the HDMI are a DVD recorder and SKY HD box, which apparantently can't allow audio through the HDMI connection; is the extra outlay really worth it for me? What's your opinion; All advice welcome?

the sony has had very good reviews and has one many awards, the auto set up is very good also , the 1016 pioneer didnt fare so well , the 2016 has more power and is a bit more in your face , it depends on which speakers you have and may get in the future aswell , a bigger kick may be needed, or it could be a waste of money , also the sony is very musical , you need to have a listen, im off to listen to both these amps today , ill let you know what i think

i bought the sony over the 2016 , there wasnt that much in it, the sony seemed a better match for the bassey kef q 7 and q 6 centre that i heard them both on , so i bought the speakers aswell, a grand well spent , ive been playing with them for a week or so and after a good run in, im very pleased with both amp and speakers , ill be bywiring the fronts soon , ive been a bit bizzy , and theres more than enough power in the sony amp for these large speakers, the 2016 seemed a nice amp but the sony was crisper and had better dialog through the centre which was something i didnt like with my old set up the 2016 also seemed to bring out to much bass in the kefs , you will need to try the amp s with the speakers , richer sounds does a 14 day return , but i think for the money the sony wins every day

Hi,
first ever post,(i,m a complete novice) but would love some advice please. We have a pioneer plasma tv and i suggested to my wife it would be nice to have a proper surround sytem, so bless her she went and suprised me with an av amp. and because the tv is a pioneer, she bought home the vsx 1016. Now after reading the review on this site, my question is which speaker package would be best for negating the bright top end. we have around £1000 to buget, any advise would be gratfully received. many thanks
