Using a DAC with DVD for stereo

I am using a Cyrus CD8 as a CD transport coupled with a Chord DAC 64. The result is excellent but I would like to rationalise the number of 'boxes' I have by ditching the Cyrus and using an upscaling DVD player as a single source for both DVD replay and also (coupled with the DAC 64) CD audio. Has anyone tried this? Will the combination of say a Denon 3930 or even a Marantz DV9600 with the DAC 64 give me the same quality of CD reproduction as I get from the Cyrus? Ultimately the quality of the CD playback is more important to me than DVD. Any thoughts or guidance most welcome, thanks.

I use a cambridge isomagic with a toshiba dvd player (one of the first) with pretty good sonic results, so experiment...

It sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Basically, some DACs are more sensitive to the drives that you are using them with than others. I've a Perpetual Technologies P3a DAC that is really as happy with a walkman as it was when I had a Meridian 506.

Talking about good SACD/DVD players, I notice that the second hand price of the Denon 2900 is now around £200. Stunning value. Also the DVDA1 at £500-ish. Ok, they don't have upscaling but from a sonic point of view....
