As a hifi diehard in the listening room (!) (Arcam FMJ32/CD23T/Dynaudio Floorstanders) I thought I would get a Home Cinema system for the lounge...Wanted minimal clutter, did the research, came up with the Philips HTS 9800W wireless (ish) system. Ordered back in December 2006 - waited and waited only to be told by the supplier that Philips couldn't supply! This was last week. Prob too cheap for Philips..Ordered again only to have the order cancelled last Fri as the supplier couldn't supply. I know this is a popular product but anyone else had these probs?

Sounds like you've had a nightmare there! The last dealings I had with Philips was when I purchased an old CRT TV. I think it was through Dixons, who contrary to many a horror story, supplied it with minimum fuss. Maybe you've just been unlucky.
Either way, it's worth pursuing your hunt for an HTS9800W - it's been getting great reviews in the mags.

 Hi,
Yes i'm having exactly the same trouble. I have wanted the HTS9800 since December, but have only seen it instock online once ever since, and by the time I had placed my order the stock had all gone (this was last week)! I have never been able to find it in the shops, mainly again due to there being no stock of this product. I will just keep waiting until either Philips definately stop supplying, or until a better system comes out.

Hi Matthew! I reordered another one from Pixmania on 1st April. It was handed over to Royal Mail on 13 April, they tracked it into their National Depot in Coventry on the 15th and thats the last I know - despite its Parcelforce 24 hour delivery!!! Talk about fated... Now I am emailing Pixmania and Parceforce but no progress so far and still haven't got it!!
Good luck!!!

 |
Thats damned unlucky David-hope you receive it shortly. Pixmania was the only website that I have come across that recieved any stock from Philips, but as I said I just missed out-it was in stock as I placed the order, but out of stock once the order was complete! Still, hopefully 16th May will be when they get some more stock....I hope!

Matthew Parcel is officially lost (prob stolen) now. Can't believe that Parcelforce just accept it. Their helpline just kept passing me to the local office who rang and were very pleasant but couldn't deliver what they haven't got! Got an apology for the inconvenience but situations like this would seem to be accepted.Pixmania are taking it up with Pf and will let me have another one on official confirmation that its "lost" (ha, ha!). So one less available for others on the 16th eh? Make sure Pixmania deliver yours via DHL rather than Pf otherwise....

That is unlucky, but hopefully you're not getting my 'reserved' one!!! ;-)

Hi David, I've just checked Pixmania's website, and it would appear that the Philips HTS 9800W is no longer available. I'm guessing that Philips have decided to discontinue producing it. It's a shame because it looks such a good system, and has come top in so many tests. I'm sure the demand is there for it, so I don't know why they can't provide the goods. I think I will have to look for another home cinema system!

Hi Matthew, interesting what you say! After the Pixmania/Parcelforce debacle I have at least had a full refund...so that at least sorted that. However about 3 weeks ago I had an email from Cheap Electricals the original supplier saying they had a small quantity coming in w/c 21/5. At the time the Pixmania supply was on so I did nothing. Last week things changed with the refund (despite the fact I asked for a replacement!). So I emailed Cheap Electricals saying if I placed an order on Tuesday would I definitely get one. They came back said yes, I placed the order plus emailed basically to plead that please, please supply one and they came back immediately to say yes available in 14 days..!!!I had already emailed Philips on 3/4 querying their supply. They said "very high demand, many retailers experiencing stock issue. However still being manufactured and shipped out" They suggested contact with www.dutchwest.com their 3rd part mail order service. Sorry for the long reply but trying to help and of course waiting and hoping for mine!! Try Cheap Electricals or Dutchwest (prob have to ring Dutchwest). Keep the faith!!

Ok David, thanks for the info,' I'll keep searching and waiting to see what happens! Surely one of us will get one eventually!?!
|
 |
Hi David, I recieved my Philips home cinema from Pixmania-did you get yours?
|
 |
Hi Matthew
No! Delivery now 29 June from Cheap Electricals. So had a good moan at them cos there was no reason given by them as to the revised date bearing in mind I ordered from them on the basis of w/c 21 May! Also e-mailed Philips and moaned at them and I am going to email What HiFi as well. Glad you got yours - let me know how you get on with it....

Hi Matthew
Saw your post re the buzzing. Mine will be here tomorrow (must have meant 29 May not June). Let you know any similar probs and hopefully solutions!!

Just to let you guys know, www.broadbandstuff.co.uk have the 9800Ws in stock and ready to ship for next day delivery. You can see them here: http://www.broadbandstuff.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=771 . Very limited stock though as they are incredibly hard to get hold of in the UK. Just ring 0870 766 23 29 if you are interested and ask to speak to David!

All sorted arrived installed and working perfectly! Excellent quality product and very impressed - speaker stands are excellent though I have only used the two for the rear left and right, everything else is mounted easily on the wall!! Well happy

I have a philips home cinema system. However the dvd player is now giving me problems. I would like to replace the dvd part, but this is connected to the speakers via the woofer. There is an oblong block which goes into the back of the dvd player. all the speakers plug into the back of the woofer with some squrae type of connector. I have another dvd player, which is not an home cinema type. My question is, does anyone know if I can get a replacement dvd with this connector. Or, can I get some sort of adaptor which this plug will go into, and enable me to connect to an ordinary dvd player. Or, am I screwed.

Hi Bob The only suggestions are: Get on to Philips about the DVD hub. If there are probs then they should sort it. If you take out the connector from the DVD hub you will take out the whole system which means the preamp and all connectivity and control ie Tuner, Amp etc. I suggest you connect the spare DVD via the junction box using a coax cable to the digital in from the digital out (if you have one) on the spare DVD. If not connect spare DVD Audio out to aux in on the junction box and video out to TV. Sorry if I am stating the obvious that you have already realised! Let me me know if this is helpful or not! Dave
