Repair of Marantz 6000OSE KI Signature

I have a loved Marantz 6000OSE KI Signature player that has served me well. Unfortunately it also developed a problem some time back that I am finding it more and more difficult to live with.

It sometimes (see below) produces a white noise in the high frequencies on one channel, and/or one channel will sound as if there is a loose connection.

I have struggled to deduce exactly when this happens and when it does not, but I think it is related to the player having been switched off. It then takes an hour or more of warm-up to get it right again. BUT it does not ALWAYS happen -- sometimes the player works just fine from cold.

Is it even worth trying to repair it, and if so where should I turn?

You could always leave the unit permanently on- cheaper than a repair. My own elderly Marantz/Cyrus system seemed to take a while to warm up properly and is now always on with no discernible ill-effects.

Check your connections first. Swap the speaker cable and the interconnects from one side to the other to see if the problem switches channel.

Unfortunately, repairs do tend to be expensive if they're done by anyone who is any good.

The good news is that good second hand players are now insanely cheap. You can get a Denon 2900 for £200 (originally £850) these days that will also play SACDs.

Obviously a common problem as mine developed the sam fault

@ roger glennie:

I ended up selling mine on eBay (being upfront about the problems of course) and ugrading to a Linn Genki.  I have to say that I have mixed feelings about the "upgrade" -- I do recognise that the Genki picks out more detail in intimate jazz recordings, placing members of a trio better on the soundstage for instance, but the sound feels very veiled, lacking clarity and insight and not as neutral as the Marantz.  Not at all an obvious winner, in spite of the significant price difference!

...so perhaps hold on to your KI and put up with the hassle.
