I have just purchased a Naim system consisting of a CD5X a NAC122X pre-ano NAP150X amp and a Flat Cap 2X power supply. I have retained my ProAc Tablette 2000 speakers.

Are there any better speakers which would improve my system. The shop recommended Focal 716V's but I have been told that they may be too overpowering and should try Sonus Faber speakers. Anyone with this Naim system with any info would be appreciated

Sydney,

It might be worth a visit to the Naim site and their forum.  This is realy busy and there are often threads about suitable speakers for Naim kit and yes, the Sonus Fabers do seem to crop up quite a bit but others get mentioned.

I've used a lot of naim kit in the past. As always, your own ear is the best judge, but I've found that Sonus Faber works well with Naim, but if you want to use the bigger speakers, you might find the 150x a limiting factor. An interesting alternative is PMC. Some people find them too neutral, but I like the uncoloured sound, which really let's the naim character shine through. Even the dinky DB1i's give a large, rounded sound with plenty of bass extension (wiht a good stand). The floorstanders are great too. If you find the PMC too clinical, how about Epos?

Have fun listening!

Thanks  Roderick. Armed with this information I will go to my local Hi Fi Shop and ask for a demo.

I am in the process of purchasing (s/hand) Sonus Faber Cremona M's for a good price. I'll let you know how they perform with my equipment if and when I receive them.

I really can't understand why you are not considering Naim speakers - they are unsuprisingly an excellent match for all Naim electronics and should be your first point of call.

I enquired about Naim speakers at my local hi-fi shop but was told that they could not recommend them. I thought that with their own equipment they would be a good match.

Is your local Hi-Fi shop a Naim dealer?  If not that would explain why they can't recommend them.

Hi Andrew, Yes they are Naim dealers. I bought my equipment from them. Perhaps I should go the shop and audition them. They keep recommending Sonus Faber Concerto Domus.

Well definitely audition them both!  I've never seen a bad review of any Sonus Faber speaker but then again I don't recall any reviews with a Naim front end - let your ears be the judge it comes down to your own personal taste in the end. If you can audition in your own set up in your own home.

There is a thought out there that it's best to have a complete Naim System than piecemeal as they are supposed to work well together.

I agree perhaps SJ will give us and update.

I have today purchased Sonus Faber Concertino Domus speakers with SF Stands. I can audition them for a week and upgrade to Floorstanding SFCD's if required. I will let you know how they perfom in a few days time.. Thanks for all your help previously.

Hi All, I have had these speakers for over a week now and I think that they are excellent. They work extremely well with my Naim system. They are well made and the sound is amazing. I have'nt got a large room so I find these are ideal. I dont think I need to upgrade to the floorstanders as I find that there is enough bass in these. Thanks for your help previously and I am now looking forward to many hours of listening. The music I play by the way is mainly Jazz.

Hi Sydney, why dont you get in touch with Wilmslow Audio in Leicester, they have lots of speaker kits on demo, and will let you use your own equipment as well.........Dave

The best dealer I have come across is Derek Whittington, Very unlikely to make a mistake with him. He is in the Book. New Audio Frontiers, Loughborough. And I am a customer I am not advertising for a friend. He doesn't let the manufacturers arm twist him. If he doesn't think it's good he doesn't sell it.

Thanks for the advice but I have settled for the Sonus Fabers. Anyway, Leicester and Loughborough iare quite a distance from where I reside in South Wales

Hi there.

I live near Bath, but would definitely travel up to New Audio frontiers - Derek really is that good. No hard sell, just excellent advice.

I am also a very occasional customer.

I just listened to Sonus Faber Domus Concerto floor standers with my Naim 112x 150x and cd5i. These are the best for me - along with Dynaudio Focus 220 - that I have heard. I also listened to Naim, B&W and Spendor speakers. I'll definitely get the Domus or the Dynaudio depending on the price I get. The less expensive Dynaudio speakers also sound excellent.
