It would be interesting to know what percentage of viewers with HD tv's actually watch HD programs

Hi Roy,

You can count me as one, i watch via freesat although the HD content is very limited at the moment, now if SKY where to slash prices, i may consider the jump to thier camp ? but thats not going to happen until people put pressure on them to change thier monopoly over HD content ??

I dont watch 'programmes', but I do watch a lot of hidef films

Have a HD ready TV and I'm very happy with standard digital pictures - although I've never seen HD content yet. What you don't have you don't miss.

The difference - on Little Dorrit for example - is even more than I expected with much more than just the enormous sharpness improvement.  The pictures are much smoother and there's no 'tizz' around graphics and title sequences, which often look startlingly clean.  The sound is in full surround as well.

I only have BBC HD so far - on Virgin+ cable into a 50inch 1080i Panasonic plasma.

Being able to record to the hard drive on the Virgin+ box means I'll soon be running out of space.  The ethernet and eSATA ports on the box look interesting - perhaps to extend storage at some time in the future. Hope Virgin have this in mind as well as taking on more HD programming.

I didn't believe HD could be so much better than standard digital on a good plasma.

Nature and sports programmes are particularly good.

Thanks Mike for reminding me about nature and sport.

Not much into the latter but is was fascinating being able to see every bit of the mesh of the net at Wimbledon - it's just mush on SD.

That arial shot flying over the edge of the waterfall on the BBC HD taster still makes the hair stand up on my neck and the Planet Earth episodes I've managed to record on my Virgin+ box are incredibly detailed and smooth as silk.

Given the choice I always go for the HD option, whether that's watching BBC HD, pay per view HD Films or films on my HD-DVD player. Glad to see recently that Virgin are to chase on the HD content in the coming years, they've been lagging behind a little on the streaming channels, however they do provide a sizeable on demand offering in HD, both films and TV series.
