I see www.cdlabs.co.uk\sonos are now offering this product along with 50 CDs ripped for free..
hmmm, tempting...

Tempting indeed, though it is still well overpriced but the 'wow' factor is definately in tact.

When these first came out they couldn't play drm protected music, e.g. aac from ITMS, do you know if this has this been sorted out?

I recently bought one of these and it's really cool. Yes, a bit on the expensive side but then I don't need to splash out on a amp. It sounds great, I've got 4 zones and will be adding one more in the conservatory so that I'm ready for the good weather and the BBQ!

My friends are impressed and it seems like they have already planned a party at my place!

Seriously, this really has changed the way I listen to my music and Sonos have ironed out may of the early issues so it’s capable of playing all the main digital formats as well as internet streams but does not support playback of DRM protected yet.

Yeah it is tempting and would impress everyone not to mention make listening to music really convienient. I'll pop round to your bbq and check it out first hand then make a decision. The weather's meant to be nice this weekend so if you haven't already got any plans...

Yes, they are very tempting! Where did you buy your Sonos from Kimberly? Did you buy it online, or from your local shop?

...I've been off line for a while.

Sorry Rodney you missed the BBQ, but you were right, the weather was great and the music went on into the night!! My boyfriend rigged up his iPod to it so we had his music collection on line as well!

I bought my system in the US while I was working there, but my two of my friends who saw my system bought from CDlabs because they will rip your CDs for you as part of the deal (they also delivered the next day, so we had another excuse for a party at there place while setting the thing up)! One of them had a large collection so he had the whole thing done in FLAC, I’m considering having my entire collection done in FLAC because of the quality is so much better.

Kimberley, what is FLAC? Is it a higher quality alternative to mp3?

Shame I missed the bbq Kimberly sounds like it was a good 'un. Though with the weather the way it is at the moment the emount of bbq's I've been to recently is getting ridiculous.

Incidently I'll just take this opportunity to recommend the instant lighting charcoal that takes ONE match to light. Seriously, if you still spend hours with bit of news paper and fire lighters trying to get charcoal to light, stop immediately. Go out and buy this amazing new development, you just pop the charcoal, still in it's paper packaging, onto the bbq and light the packaging and thats it. It will definately light the whole bbq. Best. Invention. Ever.

Raoul - FLAC is Free Lossless Audio Codec. It differs from mp3 etc in that it is lossless. Whereas mp3 and other compression formats work by removing inaudible parts of the music i.e. they are lossy, FLAC keeps everything more like a zip or rar file and is lossless. So in answer to your question; yes, FLAC is of a higher quality than mp3 and is able to store music digitally in perfect quality.

I came across this gel while in Japan which is also great for lighting bbq’s (I think you can also get it here), they have a hard wood charcoal which lasts twice as long as regular charcoal and would you believe it even burns at a higher temperature, we were roasting whole chickens on the bbq…..dammed cleaver these Japanese!!

Thanks for the explanation Rodney, I’ve been comparing the difference between FLAC and mp3 on my Sonos system and the quality is definitely better using FLAC.

Guys, if any of you want to check out and/or buy the Sonos system, then we have it in stock and on demonstration. Our shop is located at 25 High Street, Pinner, and all details can be found here >> http://www.cable-shop.co.uk/shop/customer/home.php?cat=108

In answer to a previous question, at present DRM protected content still cannot be played, although we are expecting a fix on this.

Well, I decided to bite the bullet and brought from www.cdlabs.co.uk a few days ago.

The service was excellent, and as well as getting 50 CDs ripped to FLAC for free, I decided to rip the rest of my collection. I now have 267 CDs all controlled from the remote - and the sound quality is Fantastic !

Everyone loves my Sonos - and so do I - best gadget I ever brought. I love the feature where you can listen to the internet radio just as if it was a hifi local radio station - superb !
