I have a fairly old (but we like it) Aiwa Z1290 Hi-Fi stacking system with a cd player that takes 3 cds. The trouble is that the player just keeps spinning trying to load the cds but never seems to find them. Does anyone have any idea as to what the cause might be and is it expensive to fix? Would it be more economical to change it bearing in mind that funds are very limited? Many thanks Paul
Hi Paul, hmm it's almost certainly something to do with the lens. My micro hifi in the kitchen has the same problem. It's infuriating. Sometimes it'll decide to work and then it won't...
Have you tried running a lens cleaner disc on it? Might sort the problem. If that fails, i'm guessing it would probably be cheaper to replace the system than it would to have it fixed...
Many thanks for the response Dan. I think the end for my Hi-Fi is in sight but it just seems such a shame to throw out something that otherwise is like new and you don't mind being on show. I was hoping that it was a cheap job - I had tried the lens cleaner discs on it numerous times in hope that it would 'cure' it but sadly not. Many thanks again - I appreciate your advice Paul
Might still be worth taking it to an electrical repairs shop and finding out how much it'd cost to have fixed especailly if you have an emotional attachment to it.
I have acquired a Z1290 recently which works OK but haven't got a user manual, which is a little frustrating as I'm sure it would work better if we knew what we were doing! Do you still have your machine? If not do you still have the manual and could I buy it from you? I know this is a very long shot, but its a measure of my frustration!
