I have just bought the Mission M35 floorstanders. I have literally been blown away buy their quality. Although having the longest break in time of any speakers I've ever known, the wait is well worth it. The speakers sound even better than they look, and that's saying something. Suited to AV explosions and club bass lines, yet equally at home with AV ambience and soft jazz.
After listening to so many speakers in this price range, I cannot think of a single set of speakers that can match them for quality.I think the closest I'v ever heard is the Mordaunt Short Ms908's.
Be interesting to hear other opinions of any better speakers below £500.
I also have the M35i's, but i'm not as thrilled, with av they sound fantastic, but with music, they lack timing, all the detail is there but it doesent gel, dont get me wrong it may be my system is not run in fully, i have the pioneer ax5i, denon 2910, mission m35 plus m3c2 centre cabling is all ioxs, qed an gold speaker cable, anyone else find the same?
I am in Canada and I am wondering if having the Mission M35i for a main and M33i for a rear along with a Mission center channel will work?? I also have my M33 filled with sand, is this the right thing to do? I am running these with a Denon AVR1907 @ 85w a channel. Please let me know.
I have recently purchased a pair of M35s from Global Hifi in Newcastle. They were reduced to £199 and were as new, hadnt even been played in. I have them connected to my Nad c350 amp hooked up with a nad cd player and my computer (mp3 collection).
They need playing in, but once done so, they are amazing, fabulous midrange and loads of bass. They also do not distort at higher volume levels at all. Really chuffed with them. Not to mention the cabinets are really attractive.
I live in Canada and am searching for a pair of floorstanding speakers to go in a 400 sq/ft dining/living area with a Yamaha RX-396 receiver (I will eventually upgrade) with 50W/ch. I will only have fronts and biwire them. I am looking at Mission M33i (159.95 pounds), Mission M34i (249.95 pounds), Q Accoustics 1030i (229.99 pounds), Wharfdale Diamond 9.4 (179.95 pounds), and Mordaunt-Short Carnival 6 (229.00 pounds) or Mordaunt-Short Avant 904i (279.00 pounds). Anyone have any ideas, advice, input concerning these speakers? I know it seems like alot to comment on but I am leaning towards the Wharfdale Diamond 9.4 because of the quality for the price. I am not into deep, heavy bass; I like a medium bass sound. I just need a little more info to push me to choose.
Chris, my impressions on M34i, M35i and Wharfedale 9.4 /9.5.
M34i: these are trully in my opinion an audophile certificate when paired with NAD. 2way, sounded best when bi wired. Excelent balance of mids lows and highs. No coloration. perfect reproduction.
M35i: versatile monsters. They can move your furniture for real while can also play jazz or blues with a great finece. These speakers need a power amp, mine are hooked to a Nad 355BEE and waiting for a nad 375bee. Leave at least40cm behind them or if not possible, put a sponge in each bas reflex port to seal them.
Mission sound best with power amps and bi wired. For bi wiring, ive noticed the best result with 4mm coper OFC for lows and 2.5mm silver OFC for highs.
9.4: dificult to match them with an amp. Need a powerful amp just to sound decent. The sount is very very similar to what B&W is offering. Works great with Rotel.
9.5: more grunt then 9.4 but with expence of clarity, stereo image. Muddy bas.
I'm impressed by the Q Acoustics range - the current 1050i floorstander won the Hi Fi World speaker of the year award and is a lot of (good) speaker for the money. RRPs at £350, but widely available for under £300.
The interesting connection between Q and Mission is one of the guys involved at Mission during their 1990s heyday (their best period IMO - they won't come close to that in a hurry - the 75 series, the 733i, superb) was instrumental in setting up Q. I'd have a closer look at their products.
Alternatively, get some - if you don't mind the used market - good secondhand speakers. I picked up some 752s for £80 the other week and in fabulous condition. Just breaking them in now. Tricky business with used speakers, but if you get the right speaker in the right condition for your listening preferences, you can walk away with some fine product.
I have a pair of Q-Acoustics 1030 speakers that you are welcome to. No need for a sub and all it's tricky positioning and combining. I'm convinced the overall sound of a good pair of floor standers is far better than any small speakers and a sub.
Absolutely brand new in original boxes I would happily let them go for 100 pounds, e-mail me if interested!
