Which are the best sub/sat system around the £1000 mark.
So far I'm considering Kef and Focal Sib.
Are there any more that are as good or better than those?
Cheers Chris

Certainly the Kef KHT 2005AV comes well recommended getting positive reviews across the board, I don't really know about the Focal Sib though I'm sure you've done you're home work. As far as other high quality alternatives go why not try the Camridge Soundworks MC300 there's a review here or

Sorry accidently cut myself short there. What I meant to say was: "there's a review here or... have a look at Monitor Audio's offering with a review here

Hmmm ...... looking at full-size or (as it seems) the so-called "style" or small range? And for what size room? In my 14' x 12' room, the Mordaunt-Short Genie's are amazing for £700 but I understand that for your budget the new B&W's may be better? You could try arranging demo's?
|
 |
ALWAYS try arranging demos, no opinion of speakers is ever better for you than your own.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have been going for demos just looking for recommendations of what to demo (there are several AV places around where I live).
Cheers Chris

Well you can get a 'test disc' that is designed to exhibit different qualities through the speakers - see this thread or just take a few of your favourite cd's or dvd's(have particular scenes in mind) and that way you can get an idea of whether the speakers sound reproduction are suitable for you.

Have you considered the new Tannoy Arena Package - Retails for £1199 although should be able to negotiate with your nearest dealer. I've seen and heard it and on both counts it was fantastic. Definitely worth a look

Ahhhh, the Tannoy Arena! I want them!!! *sigh*

I have been concerned that so-called 'cinema sound' systems do not fully replicate the cinema experience. Not one of the systems has a 'cough' interrupter nor the rustling sweet paper filter. There are no annoying children programmes and a total lack of irritating adverts for Mr Chin's Chinese Restaurant and Massage Parlour in the High Street (courtesy of Pearl and Dean). When will maufacturers wise up and give us the true cinema experience we so crave!
|
 |
Lol @ J Jones. You missed out the fact that the systems fail to come with pre-chewed chewing gum to attach to your seat though : )
The thing is though, with advertising aspect at least, and the fact that it pretty much makes the world go round is that I wouldn't be THAT surprised if it manages to worm it's way into DVDs(that is if you don't include the shameless product placement that already plagues most modern films...).
|
 |
I've actually had DVDs with trailers for other films at the begining. Pretty pointless though as you can just press the 'menu' button to go directly to start screen. As for other advertising I wouldn't bet against film DVDs being sponsored by a company, much like Stella and channel 4 films, you might get a dvd in association with Coca Cola. Remember you heard it here first!
