
These days you’re unlikely to make any heinous mistakes with decently priced cables, but it can certainly pay to experiment to find your optimum sound. There are of course plenty to choose from, and if you’re spending more than pennies it could be worth dragging your kit down to a dealer to try a few out.
For some names, Kimber 8PR offers excellent bass extension, which may help to make up for the KEF standmount’s reticence in the low end. They cost around £21, which should fit with what you’re thinking of spending dollars-wise. Van den Hul meanwhile have some very decent mid-price interconnects – The Well comes highly recommended for around £65, or there’s the new The NAME, which we haven’t tried yet, but sounds very promising for £40 (0.8m pair).
