Have dusted off my old vinyl and was looking for mid priced turntable to play them on. Any recomendations ?

Hi Paul, why not take a look at this goldring gr2, certainly gets a positive review here and comes into the price bracket.

Have you uncovered any old gems on vinyl then?

Thanks for the advice. No gems really a few old 70's and 80's soul LPs and 12" sigles

NAD have a new turntable out but the Goldring GR2 is not only much better than the old GR1 model but is both cheaper than the NAD and comes with a much better cartridge and sound insulation. Mine cost just £230. If you do not want to spend that much then project do some good models for £100 + and if all else fails go for the Bush mini-turntable from Richer which comes with inbuilt phono stage and costs around £40! but performs well above that price.

Stephen a £40 turntable sounds like an incredible bargain - but would you really want a Bush product in your set up?!

The Rega R3 seems the perfect choice... if your budget will stretch to £298 + a £60 cartridge, however
My local dealer agreed to demo an R3 but on visiting the dealer the 2 week old R3 had failed. My confidence was shattered......!
So now I'm considering the Goldring GR2 a bargain at only £215 from Stoneaudio.co.uk.
I've read about availability issues and both turntables come from the same factory.
I'm also returning to Vinyl and trying to choose between the GR2 and the P3. (ie £215 vs £360)

If you have to buy from Richer.co.uk then look at the Thorens TD170 at £199 a decent bit of German engineering (although I havn't heard it my previous German Dual 504 Turntable was reliable)

Richer Sounds have the Project Expression Mk2 for £250. I've got the Mk1 version that I'm very pleased with.

The Rega are often lauded for their flexibility - you can have their arms rewired to enhance performance by a number of different companies.

Don't know if the Project can do the same, but it comes with an excellent carbon fibre arm that belies it's price.

Well worth consideration.

I've got the ProJect Debut Phono SB - £220-ish - and sounds a treat.

But considering upgrading the cartridge. Anyone upgraded from OM5e and to what? Heard on another thread that Audio Technica AT110e makes a big difference (Drew Phillips)

Mostly listen to Rock - through NAD320BEE and Mission m33i floorstanders.

Also - anyone used the Ringmat? Is it worth it at £60 for anniversary?

suggest you go for a goldring gr2. I got mine from superfi in white for £150 - can't go wrong even at full retail :)

I bought the Rega P3 with a Rega arm and cartridge (Total £398). I'm delighted with the sound quality and the engineering quality. Vinyl has a rich smooth relaxing characteristic thats missing from CD.
I bought from a specialist dealer in Ringwood Hampshire where I got a Rolls Royce service despite spending less than 1/10th of what some of their turntables cost.

The Vinyl sound touches my soul!

I bought a used LP12 with Basik Plus arm for £300. These are built to last forever, retain their value and are readily upgradable.

LP12 with arm ffor £300 = Bargain.
Many congratulations - Enjoy

My Rega P3 is still going well.
