i seemed to get lost on my way to your sister site 'bikemagic' and decided to see if i could get some help
ok, right now, i have a fairly old technics "E10" system, which is the amp/tuner, cd deck, and tape deck, with 2 speakers that are a bit large for my room
so, what should i be looking for, bearing in mind i like the sound that the technics gives out, so i don't really want to swap it for something argos sells, just because it's smaller
how about something like that one on the homepage, the one you can win, how would that fare up as a replacement? (also, it mentions ipods, would my sony still connect?, would it be a 3.5mm or phono?)
ok, although i've asked a lot so far, one last thing, is it possible to get what i need, but on a budget of say £300? my bike's draining what little money i have!
So to summarise: you're after something small but that can punch above it's weight so to speak. The good news is that shouldn't be too hard to do and there's loads of choice. I'll try to give a few suggestions but first a few questions of my own!
The competition prize is decent and you could hook up anything to it via phono including your sony (walkman? minidisc?) but is really suited to a bedroom or kitchen, so where do want to have your new system?
Do you require all of the amp/tuner, cd deck, and tape deck of your technics in the new product?
And yes if you could rustle the money up for one of those set ups you linked to it would be good! Sell you bike to do so, it'll be winter soon - too cold for all that cycling!! :o)
erm, it's in a bedroom for a start, about 3mx2m very small, and that needs to fit in a computer desk as well as wardrobe and bed and stuff, so i really do have little room for anything
i really don't need the tape deck, but the cd and amp/tuner i do need, well, unless i get something new... all i need is something with a line in, and good sound quality, the input could be either phono/3.5mm/optical or s/pdif phono, it's being connected to a computer, but having it as a standalone cd player is good, for when i either can't be arsed to start up my computer, or at night, when i just want to put a cd on
so, if you can't understand that rabble,
it's going into a bedroom
it doesn't need tape, but it does need to have an input for a computer
Okey dokey and deep breath, you're after a small system to link up to a PC but it's important for it to be able to work independently of the PC. So the PC sound will just come through the Aux channels of the new system. You also need to link your sony nw-hd3 to it and have cd and radio functions. OK.
With £300 ish you have a fair bit of choice and can get some nice bedroom style solutions. (Which is useful as you need it for a bedroom). The problem is going from your current technics system to what will essentially have to be a micro system, the sound quality will likely suffer I'm afraid. Are you sure you couldn't just re-arrange your room to accomodate your current system more effectively?
If you can try to get some demo's of the systems you've posted earlier then you could see what you think.
Just wondering if you are still looking for something to replace the Technics stuff? If you've got an iPod, this will be ideal: www.i-deck.com Just got one myself, and it is fantastic. You can also hook your computer up to it via a 3.5mm mini jack in the back of the product. As for sound, it sounds a lot bigger than it looks!!!
if you can find an awia d999 second hand all working get one, they are midi sized twin tape tuner 3cd 150watt amp inside, small package huge sound. great for partys.
