the main problem with apple, was they aimed at the 'high end' of the market - if they had priced themselves lower, they would have beaten the PC in the '90s, before windows took hold....

Its certainly strange in hindsight... we could be talking about steve jobs today, instead of bill gates..... :O

Foneman wrote : yeah well it shows how long it's been since I have seen a mac - the last I saw had only *one* mouse button!! - and I am amazed that any decent 'mac fan' would let MS stuff near it!! I hear that the 'safari' mac browser is far better than any others...

The latest Macs come with a very neat mouse with a scroll wheels that allows l to r and diagonal scrolling as well as the normal up and down and if you squeeze the sides, the cursor remains fixed in position. But yes, you're right, only one button before this.

The Safari browser is excellent - as for Internment Exploder, best not to go there...

Worth adding that I _do_ use some Microsoft products - Entourage email host, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access and in their Mac incarnations, they are very good programs.

Euler wrote : As far as I'm concerned windows is intuitive and very esy to use, a mac on the other hand is confusing and I have a tough time getting them to do what I want them to.

This is all to do with familiarity - I experience exactly the same when using Windoze - but after a while it comes together. The difference is that the Mac really is intuitive to use - for instance - and bringing the topic back to music which after all, is the reason we are all here - if you want to burn an audio CD from MP3 tracks on a Windoze machine, you first of all have to convert the files from MP3 to WAV and then you have to burn them. On a Mac, you drag the MP3s into the CD burning application and tell it you want to burn an audio CD and it does the conversion for you.

Erm I'm afraid you're wrong Julian, Windows (media player) will convert automatically for you as well.

However, on my PC I use iTunes to burn CDs! lol

Okay Euler, I will take your word for it - I cannot lay claim to being any kind of expert where Windoze is concerned but I do remember a couple of years back watching a friend go through the malarkey described above... Maybe it's another Apple idea that Bill Gates has pinched...

Hi everyone, This is my first visit.I've recently bought from my local PC World a Compaq Presario PC with 17inch TFT monitor for £570 to replace my 5year old Time PC.
I then discovered that Compaq PCs are made by Hewlett Packard. This matches well with my relable 'old' hp Scanjet scanner and Photosmart printer.I have always been attracted to hp products since using their electronic test equipment many years ago.

Hi Eric

Sounds like a decent deal on the PC, especially from PC World, I always thought they were expensive.

Do you know what the other specifications of it are?

Hi Brucie, The specifications for the Compaq Presario 1519 Desktop PC are: 512Mb DDR RAM, 160Gb Hard Drive, DVD REWriter Drive, ATi Radeon 200 Graphics, 9-in-1 Media Card Reader, 7x USB Ports, WindowsXP Home, Microsoft Works v7.0 and with 17inch Philips TFT Flat Panel Monitor plus Philips Speakers and a Keyboard. I bought this PC near the end of August so it would be best to check with PC World on current availability and price. I paid £569.99 + 1p for delivery. The Code they quoted in their advert at that time was 006698.
I went to PCWorld because I had such a lousy support for my old PC from the now defunct Time organisation that I used to go to my local PCWorld branch if there was a serious problem. I hope this helps.

Well you can't go wrong with 1p for delivery can you?!

wish you luck.... just make sure you keep you eye on that door, *all day* - I have even had some courier post a 'no answer' slip through the door in front of me!! - I chased him down the road!

another one 'no appearance' one was actually delivered to my 'across the road' neighbour.. nope, no card either, its lucky my neighbour asked me about it..!!
