Hi - can anyone let me know what digital portables they're using that they recommend? I want to buy one for my wife (ok, admittedly, I'll be using the thing), and would like a good, cheapish, simple, stylish one to kick off with. Any recommendations?
Thanks for any help. Jamie

As in DAB portables Jamie?

You could try having a look at Dave Oliver's recommendations here.

If you're looking for a present for you wife you could do a lot worse than the Evoke from Pure. Go for the stereo option.
They're gorgeous with a wood finish. But that's only if you want it for home or picnic use.

I agree Peter, they are lovely. Do you have one? Are you happy with the sound / reception?
I very nearly bought the Evoke One at Christmas (pressie for husband - but they seemed to be sold out everywhere) then I thought I may as well wait for the Evoke 2, haven't got round to it yet.
The styling is still not quite up there with the Tivoli (as far as I'm concerned) which we've got, but the lure of DAB is pretty strong as we get a lot of interference on the tuner.

I heard a rumour that a new range some similarly retro styled ones were coming out soon , but cna't think now who was making them. I think they were pitched a bit lower than the Pure in price terms, so if price is a major consideration you may want to hold on. If I think of which company it was I'll post up here.
Let us know how you get on!

We sell the entire range of Pure Digital Radios, the most popular being the Tempus-1 and Evoke-2, feel free to take a look! (link in shopping partners section, and ad on right hand side)

Ah, remembered, it was Accoustic Solutions.

Mr (Mrs?) Cableshop - which is the best selling? The Evoke-2 is the best looker - does that carry over into sales, given the sound quality is pretty excellent on them all.

Lately the Tempus-1 has been the better seller, the extra features it has plus the option of an extra speaker, etc. make it more "future proof". However the presence of FM and the ability to run off batteries on the Evoke-2 are also big selling points.

Thanks for the advice. I do like the look of the Evoke 2. Now off to check out prices.

How did your search go Jamie?

I use the Evoke 2 at home, it's great, 'tho the lack of alarm-clock mode is a bit of a shame...

i too am looking for a portable personal dab radio for my husband, style dosnt matter too much but good quality sound and the ability to upgrade does, i also dont want to go too mad with price, any suggestions anyone? or is the old analogue just as good Irene

You know the Evoke 1XT comes in a number of different guises. You can get the Marshall Edition which looks a bit like the Marshall Amp and there's also a piano black version which I particularly like the look of. They both come with an extra speaker. But if want something that sounds really great you should try the Tangent Trio - real rich sound that will easily fill a decent sized room. They sell them at aqdab.com.
