Replacement Pioneer Plasma system cables
Wireworld or Out-of-the box?

I'm buying a Pioneer PDP-436XDE plasma and I attended the What Hifi? show in London last November. I looked at the Wireworld Pioneer system cable replacement but does it really make a difference? Hificables.co.uk has them from £180 upwards for the Ultraviolet and unsurprisingly says, "yes, they're great!". Don't need length as the plasma will be sitting on a stand so 2m is more than enough. Any thoughts/ideas/comments would be greatly received!

You do not say what av amp/receiver you have.I use all digital connections i.e hdmi and i-link. Cheaper and better than analogue connections.

Alan, I'm replacing my Yamaha amp and Kef 'eggs' V1, with a Yamaha YSP-1000 - I'm expecting similar performance in my small lounge. I will be retaining my existing Pioneer DV-656A DVD player, which another thread confirms is progressive scan, as it's great and not that old. So, I'll connect the player to the plasma by Component video cables (QED P-CV1). I therefore expect to get a great picture and more than acceptable sound.

I just would like to know if by replacing the Plasma system cables for £180 with the Wireworld kit, I'll be getting a much better picture or - back to your point - the additional expenditure won't improve the picture any further because of the planned connections?

I could not find the exact wireworld cable which you are considering, but the QED P-CV1 won best component video cable in the What Hi Fi Awards 2005. On this basis I would guess that you would notice little or no difference in the picture quality. I found the following link:-
http://www.digitalhomemag.com/reviews/default.asp?pagetypeid=2&articleid=19216&subsectionid=1306&subsubsectionid=962 which says that the Pioneer does not offer progressive scan.

I think you could see more improvement by spending £100 on a Merlin Tarantula 4 way mains conditioning block.

This is a bit late but might help, i puchased the russ andrews dvi/cable [cable from plasma screen to tuner box 2MTR/£80
This carries picture big immprovment, you dont need to change the other lead, remember
the picture will only be as good if spending loads of cash on an HDMI cable, as the lead between tuner and screen.

Ok, I've lived with my setup for a month and already replaced the Pioneer DVD player with the Denon 1920. Moving from non-progressive component to video uplifted HDMI has been my road to Damascus! I can't see how it could be any better (without going to Blu-ray or HD DVD) so I'm staying with the standard Pioneer system cable. Why spend another £80 to £180, unless someone knows different?

I'm using the QED HDMI-P cable and I've reviewed it at 100%!

This one for Alan - I already have two Merlin Tarantulas which I use for my kit so can't compare without but I would always go for clean power and the Merlin's are very good value without spending a fortune of more expensive solutions.

Neil hi mate, qed hdmi cable excellent cable
and is certainly worthy of 100%review,however do change the dvi cable between your tuner box to plasma, this the lead that carrires the picture[black lead]
leave the white lead in,you can either split them, or just conect the new one, stick with the qed,and they are pretty cheap.
hope this helps
Andy.

Hi people , have a PDP 506 and have been using Wire world silver starlight cables from tunerbox to screen , do make a differance , but biggest one is with the mains conditioning , originally used QED cables and box , before had financial melt down and went to Nordost Valhalla power cables and Thor box , if fancy a divorce when wife finds out cost that is !! , only problem with the HDMI cables ( wireworld ) is they are quite a big connector and as have my DV 139 Arcam dvd player also with the wireworld HDMI bit of a squeeze on tuner box , regards
