Need a 6 channel amp

I am running 6 ceiling speakers off a 4 channel amp with a splitter but I keep losing sound whenever I crank the volume up a bit. So, needing a new (preferably 6 channel) amp. Do I want a regular amp or would an AV one do the trick? Any recommendations for a 6 channel amp without breaking the bank - or the furniture - the NAD one I was looking at is huge and won't fit into the cabinet.
