Hi Liberato,

could not get links to work, too close together.

Qed or Chord, you may want to check out at your local hifi shop, ask and they should demonstrate in shop, both are 1.3 spec, i have the QED performance, and this is a cracker, but compare in shop to be satisfied, Welcome to forum,  Cheers......Carl.

A cable is simply that, a cable, if it transfers the signal to the far end then it does it's job, no one could possibly sell a cable that does not do it's job so any hdmi cable will be as good as anything else, I should start at the bottom, if that is not 'as good as it gets' then check out the equipment as the chances of a cable degrading the picture quality are practicably zero. Unlike analogue interconnects HDMI is a digital connection, if the bits did not arrive on time then you would not even get a picture.

Please take the time to understand cable conns, they are everywhere and they are big business.

Hello,

Side stepping the cable debate all i will say is look for a good quality well made cable.

I have been using profigold for a number of years as their cables are chunky, well made and good connectors. Have 2 of these cables below. Fair price as well

thanks to all. l how have a Qed Performance HDMI Cable for my humax freesat hd box.

and a Chord HDMI 1.3 Silver Plus for my ps3 and wow what a difference this cable makes for colours, blacks, and a sharper image.

previously i  was using the  Qed Performance HDMI Cable which now i use for my hd box.

haha

Thats exactly what happened to me. I had a qed but the chord was most definitely a clear step up,but I went one better with wireworld after that (And put the chord elswhere)

You will find that people keep dissing you though as they truly believe that digital cable means NO errors or differnce in quality at all. I personally dont believe anything I read, I have to go try them for myself

May I ask Lib?  Do you use a mains conditioner or decent mains cables or anything like that?

Show/hide user stats
to Rik H no l do not use a mains conditioner or decent mains cables or anything like that.

Well at the very least id recommend upgrading the tv mains cable mate (And plugged straight into the wall) to a braided kind ~ it should make the world of difference

And a tacima mains conditioner might be worth a try?

Sorry guys I cannot agree on these cable issues, maybe if I found a USB cable that would improve the printed image from my computer I could, but a have not, if I found a mains cable that actually changed anything then I may believe it, but I have not. I sit here in front of a HDMI connected monitor (23") on the computer and if just one pixel were wrong/missing I would notice it, but I don't. So what can be improved?

I am not going back into the lengthy discussion about digital verses analogue connections except to say that a digital cable has no knowledge of colour, or black or anything else, just like the USB cable if it gets the information to the other end then it does it's job.

Think back to the days of analogue telephone calls, when it was quite obvious that the call was 'long distance', the reason, it had gone down many miles of cable, but since the introduction of the, only eight bit conversion, it is now impossible to estimate a callers distance. That is the beauty of digital if the bits get there and can recreate the original word then there is NO difference, not pretty close, or nearly right, no absolutely NO difference, that is why Pluto could copy a track thirty times and not hear a difference, because there was not one. Try that in the analogue days and you would give up by third generation, the result would be so bad.

I agree that Plutos test is certainly intriguing. But thats NOT watching something on a tv is it?

Its very simple John. You will NEVER be convinced ~ thats clear. But I, like liberato, have tried them for myself so until you do the same your words are meaningless im afraid.

It seems to me also that if liberato did see a step up from the qed to the silver (Has as EVERYONE I know thats actually tried them on a decent setup!) then he will also see the difference with the mains cable too.........

Sorry Rik, that is sorry not to agree but digits are numbers so if the numbers are the same then the picture must be, end of. Sorry again for not being convinced of something that does not exist, if you were to say 'what a wonderful warm day it's been' and I were to say 'well actually it was only about 15 degrees' then who was right, was my thermometer right or your perception???

Perhaps I should not use the word 'right' after all nothing in life is really right or wrong, more acceptable or not. Maybe your concept of 'wonderful warm day' is my concept of 'pretty cold day', now the physics stay the same it is only our perception that varies, maybe this is the case with cables.

"now the physics stay the same it is only our perception that varies, maybe this is the case with cables."

Now THAT I actually DO agree with (Just not the way u ment it)

Everyones different. No 2 people (Even twins) are EXACTLY the same. So the differences I see, someone else may simply not be able to percept!

"per·cept (pʉrsept′)

noun

a recognizable sensation or impression received by the mind through the senses"

What I may be able to percept, you may not! (EVERYONE is different ~ FACT)

These blind tests havnt yet proved anything, and yet there are certain people that seem to do better in these tests then others and so theyre just called 'lucky coins'.

Ive described MY ideal blind test elsewhere so wont repeat here.....

Lets say for 1 minute your right. Its that people percieve things differently. Maybe, just maybe (Though im NOT agreeing with you for the record) its the fact the mind has played tricks and certain people believe they do in fact see or hear these things. But lets take that further............

Surely thats beneficial to the person? If they spend 'x' amount of pounds on a cable and if they TRULY believe their system looks or sounds better to them then thats GOOD isnt it? So WHAT if its a trick, if im happy with it then thats all im bothered about. Its why people take certain hallucenagenic drugs, their mind plays tricks on them and yet.............they love it!!

(Getting back to it though, I do NOT think ive been 'tricked' on a permanent basis ~ I 'KNOW' that I can see these differnces and proved that to myself by testing the MOLAR cable that Pluto recommended. "You never know what you have till its gone")

And for the ACTUAL record these differences ARE slight, very much like some of those tests up above. Simply put the Molex doesnt have the WOW factor that the Chord Silver does.

WOW factor, yes in interior design, even equipment design, maybe even in lead appearance but in performance I rather doubt it. Something that has been said on this site a few times is 'a Rolex is expensive but does not tell the time any more accurately than a cheap Timex'. Design is a strange thing, from basically 'doing the job, up through looking fabulous, then up to real WOW factor, Apple seem to have it sussed on every level, but wait, they don't even sell a cable so what is the 'WOW factor that the Chord Silver does'. After all as Pluto said Molex actually defined the standard, and if the standard 'did the job' then anything else must be subjective and therefore not real, just like the Rolex!

It may be a more attractive timepiece but if it does not tell the time any more accurately then it does not do the job any better, I think this is a large part of the cable conundrum.

Got a wireworld starlight 2 put on my hd  satelite box en man john its so easy to see the difference with the other   cheaper  cable

maybe u have also bad eyes ,cause for the ears its obvious.

ciao tutti

OK Hans, I have been warned off discussing cable on this site by our well meaning editor, so I will not, apart to say that if one pixel were wrong on the HDMI connected computer monitor I would see it and I don't, so how much better can a picture get than every pixel correct???
