As we are changing over to digital TV in 2009 and my old dvd player has started to play up I have decided I would like a home cinema system,Not too expensive  but still with a bit of quality.I'm not sure what to look for but I want to be able to record from freeview and want It HD.If there is an option to put on to disk and or Hard drve and should I go for seperates or just buy a full system.Any advise would be great and any other things to consider.

How much are you thinking of spending in all Dave?

Im assuming it will be used for music and movies?

Do you have ANY kit already?

Hi,

yes, the  first question should be if you already have any kit. Otherwise I would recommend to buy a full system.

I found a couple of Home Cinema Systems that you might like:

-Philips HTS 3164 retails at £114.23 DVD player included, Built-in radio

-Samsung HT-X250 retails at £162.95  DVD player included

All I have at the momment Is a freeview box , dvd player and video so I will be looking to replace all with   a dvd recorder with freeview and HD and maybe blueray If need be .Does the question of blue ray come into this? I dont know how much you would be talking about but maybe £1500 - £2000 but If I dont spend all that I will replace my TV for a flatscreen 32" as well.

personally id go for package 3 or 4

Im not sure what you ment by HD. I know its High Definition, but what EXACTLY are you saying?

I'm sorry If I have'nt explained myself clearly.I want a system that has a home cinema with good sound,A good DVD recorder either Freeview or Freesat as I want  HD & Blu-ray (I'm not sure If that Is possible) I dont mind seperates If I get a good system.I have looked at the Samsung 32" TV review on here and like the sound of It but It was recommended that It was used with a good sound system But I want to be able to use Blu-ray and have HD viewing & playback.

Ok Dave

It would HAVE to be seperates for that anyways

You cant record blurays though. HIDEF tv viewing is ONLY possible through Freesat (Meaning you need a dish as well as a receiver), Virgins hidef package, or skys hidef package. And even then only on selected channels or programmes!

The problem is in recording the hidef material. As far as im aware, its not yet possible to record to a dvd and playback in hidef quality. The only solution I know of is to record to an internal hardrive (Built into the freesat receiver, or virgins or skys)

Also, you can only view hidef through a HDMI lead, meaning to see anything hidef you NEED a new tv. If you plan to watch blurays AND freesat youll need 2 hdmi sockets

When selecting a tv you also need to realise there are 2 types of hidef ~ 720p and 1080p.

HOWEVER, you wont notice a difference viewing on a 32" tv so dont go looking for 1080p in particular.
