Have around £5500 to spend on a DVD player, amp and speaker set up. Anyone have any suggestons? Arcam DV79 looks good but don't like the lack of multi-channel DVD-A through the HDMI output. Would really consider Marantz but the SR8500 lacks HDMI switching, instead it goes for DVi which I find most odd. For that kind of money, I really would would like some future proofing, hence DVD-A and HDMI switiching but not convinced I would use them in the short term esp the DVD-A. Speakerwise, I like the look of MA Radius but would really welcome alternative suggestions.

Hi David - Dunno, I'm yet to be convinced that DVD-A will really take off enough for it to be a primary consideration when buying a new set-up. Do you have a lot of DVD-A discs?? I for one haven't found them to be too common. I've seen the odd SACD here and there, but not enough to convince me that it's the future of audio...

Well there's no doubt that DVD-A sounds excellent but like you say Dan there's no guarantee it will take off fully. However, if you're going to be spending in the region of £5500 you don't want to be kicking yourself in 2 years time for omitting DVD-A compatibility. In your situation David I'd try to go for DVD-A compatibility and HDMI switching, unless you're extremely rich and can afford to upgrade again in a couple of years!
