Ive a few questions about the right sort of set up to adopt in my 12*12ft room. i have my equipment against the brickwall in a 10inch decline which is 8-9 ft wide, i sit opposite 6 or 7 feet away and behind me are two inch thick full wall plyboards which carry some resonanc

im currently running a marantz cd63 thru a KA3020se into wharfedale 9.1s and i have a half decent no great thrills sound but im looking to upgrade to achieve a decent sound. i was running a nad c352 in the above set up but ive found it brash and the 3020se tho quite old seems warmer sounding and as good as, i also recently had the pleasure of a week with a friends luxman (1978) L100 which was just superb(he wants £600 for it- is that reasonable??)#

i dont need much power, im just looking for warmness, good timing and correct defined bass at low level amplification and the luxman spoke to me in those departments even thru these cardboard wharfesnails ive ultimately regretted for the last year.

so, my questions are amp and speakers please, is spending alot of money a bigger risk in a small room than a bigger room, if you understand??

ive had my eye on a marantz pm66 ki, would this be a remarkable upgrade, and is there any real audable difference between the marantz cd63 and the cd63ki??

and most importantly the speakers please?? i used to own sonme mission/cyrus 780se which i loved would they boom out my room at low levels?? im happy buying second hand, listen to smiths, house of love, arcade fire, eighties stuff mostly

grateful for any ideas/giudance on these matters, thanks..

BIG THANK YOU CARL!!!

I tried a short length of Black Rhodium between pre/power last night, it made a great improvement.  More punch, more and tighter base, smoother mid and treble, more detail, better soundstage with alot more depth, more atmosphere. Wow, like having a new amp.

Hi Kenneth,

The quote above relates to the Nad c352 amp, before spending more cash, change the links with simler interconnects that you use for CD to amp, - let us know how you get on.  Cheers ...Carl.
