The best looking TVs you can buy

Hi John,

You are at it again, comparing TV's of different prices. In this review £950 to £2859. It is difficult to asses picture quality in stores with poor reception on std. def. and others showing blue ray, also so many tuning tweaks these days, that's why reviews are really helpful, or should be, but to review televisions on how pretty they are is a joke. Unlike picture quality, it is easy to walk into a store and chose a design that appeals to you,  what you consider ok may not appeal to someone else, so I feel this review a waste of time, mainly because of the price difference. By the way John I am still waiting for a response to my question, IS THE SAMSUNG 40A656Z31 YOU RAVED ABOUT BETTER THAN YOUR PIONEER ?

Regards Flip

Hi Flip

Ask him politely and he might reply.

Flip, this test clearly isn't aimed at you. It's for people who're interested in reading about the pros and cons of stylish TVs, whatever the price. I appreciate that you're looking for a particular price bracket, but that's not the case for everyone.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your email. Please can you look at the responses to Johns review (group test 40-42" flat tv's) around the 12th May, and you will see that I am not the only one who thinks that reviews should be price for price and size for size, also read my post 2/6/08 and you will see that I am not looking in a particular price bracket, but asked John, was the Samsung as good as his Pioneer, also would it be better to spend more than the £1400 to obtain a better quality picture, whethe plasma or lcd.

I am sorry if you think I haven't been polite, but I am still waiting for an answer to my question above after 5 weeks, in the meantime I will keep my 36" Sony CRT, until I am sure that a plasma or lcd tv can produce a better picture on std. def. which is mainly what  Virgin Media send down my cable at the moment.

Regards Flip.

Thanks Flip

I accept your criticism, but as you can see from the majority of our group tests, they are indeed price for price and size for size. Sometimes, however, we use other criteria, and we will continue to do so - every now and again.

If John didn't reply to your question, it could well be because he didn't see it - he is a busy chap after all. I'll mention it to him though.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your quick reply. I do appreciate John is very busy, and may not have seen my request, there must be  hundreds of posts on the site, but I feel it would be beneficial to a lot of people if we could sort this plasma/lcd debate out once and for all. It must be very difficult to keep reviews up to speed as technology is moving along very quickly, and what may be considered good at the moment may be improved on in 6 months time. I have been following reviews on various sites for many months, but some of the reviews, and definitely some of the following posts, only confuse the matter, tv sales displays don't help either. After John's review of the Samsung 40" 656 model I was prepared to go out and buy it, it sounded fantastic, but the following posts left me wondering. I watch all motor sport, I don't watch many films, either dvd or tv, I don't play games, and I'm on Virgin Media cable, so I would be grateful if John, or yourself could tell me what 40/42" tv would suit my viewing requirements best, with regard to all plasma and lcd tv's on the market at present.

Regards Flip.

Hi Dave,

Doesn't look as though you could persuade John to answer my question.

Regards Flip
