Hi! I'm new to the forum and don't know much so please be gentle!

I just bought a Teac CR-H257i system and i'm using it with some ancient Sony SS-A950 3 way speakers.

The system, like the speakers, has a rating of 6 ohms. Would it be safe to use speakers such as the Mission M31i which are 8 ohms? Also would anyone have any recomendations for speakers between £150-£200 with fairly decent bass response that would be ok to use with this system?

Thanks in advance for your advice,

All the best

Neil

Hi Neil

No worries (At least from me )

Basically the lower the 'OHM' rating of the speakers the harder the amp has to work to drive them. So if the system is ok with 6 ohm pairs then the 8 ohm missions will be fine. (I really WOULDNT suggest 4 ohm speakers though)

I personally recommend the Monitor Audio range of speakers but at the end of the day speakers are one of the biggest aspects of an hifi. They ultimately play the music and have the biggest bearing on what the sound will be like over anything else. So my ACTUAL advise is shortlist some and go listen to them at a local dealers

Thanks for the reply, Rik.

That clears up the ohm question, the.

All i have to do now is get it together for the 28 mile round trip to audition some speakers!

All the best

Neil
