Rik,

The Electrocompaniet Emc1 UP CD player cost me £3000 , but i think they have gone up a bit now about £3200  but worth every penny and more .

I've heard some very nice Electrocompaniet demos.  Their amps are on my list of things to try in the future.

Hi electrohead,

Sorry you had to repeat the information about your system. I think you use to have the Nordost blue heaven interconnect - what did you think of it soundwise - I recently bought one is still sounds a little raw I heard it will improve with burn in. I think you compared it to a chord chamelon as well- if so which was better?

Have a good day.

Steve.

Hi John,

Thanks for your input - but i disagree with you, but Im not going to argue the point with you.

Have a good day.

 Hi Steve,

Yes I still have some Blue heaven interconnects, although I don't use them at the moment.

They are very good but  because they are so efficient at transferring all the musical information if there is any imbalance or overly bright equipment they will show that up too , they will tone down slightly with time but not much, the best advice I can give is to experiment with speaker positioning.

Because you now have all this new high frequency info try to make the best use of it rather than get rid of it, small adjustments in speaker toe in / out can make quite large differences, spend some time messing about with positioning , when it is right the brightness should disappear and the sound stage should snap into focus. Also some attention should be turned to room acoustics if possible, moving furniture, paintings, rugs etc.

Don't be tempted to use a less informative interconnect you will loose more than you gain!

Hope this helps Electro.

Hi Christopher,

You won't regret trying out Electrocompaniet Amps, but be warned, if you do buy them you will probably bang on about  how wonderful they are continuously on HiFi forums .

Something for you to look at

All the best Electro.

Electro,

Yes, tempting.  I have a Sonus Faber itch to scratch first though.

Hi electrohead,

Thanks for the info - did you try chord chamelon too.

If so how did they compare with Nordost BH interconnect.

Regards,

Steve.

Hi Christoper,

Sounds like it could be an expensive itch ! but I'm sure it will be a very pleasurable one .

All the best Electro.

Steve,

No I have not tried the chord but judging by the differences I have heard between Nordost cables and most others it is worth persevering with the blue heaven.

All the best Electro.

Hi electrohead,

Thanks for the feedback - looking back at some reviews it was icehockeyboy that compared it to chord. I have put my cd on repeat for about 50 hours so far and have found some improvement - the soundstage has opened up and at the same time becoming slightly warmer and natural sounding.

Thanks for your feedback again.

Steve.

Electro,

SF can indeed be an expensive itch but sometimes less so; A set of s/h Concerto can be had for just over £500 - remarkable value.

The Cremona Auditor are £1,600-£1,700 s/h which also represents value IMO.

I've spent quite some time on the Electrocompaniet website however there is a credit crunch so not 'til much later.

Hi Chris, I thought I had replied last night, but so many postings get deleted that I find it hard to keep track of. Now I don't know exactly what you read into the 'credit crunch' but IMO it really makes no difference at all, if you want to buy something then go ahead, if your credit card has not upped their fees to 25% then what has changed. OK it is slightly more difficult to borrow £150,000 but it is no more difficult to go shopping, and when I say slightly that is all it is, most of the so called 'credit crunch' is media scare mongering, in reality it has very little truth. Example one, last year I could borrow say £100000 at 85% of value on a flat at 6.5%, now in the depths of the 'credit crunch' I can still borrow £100000 but at only 75% of the value, still at 6.5% so hardly a reason not to borrow, add to the equation that prices have fallen by 10-20% and the so called credit crunch actually works in my favour, simply by buying at 'below market value'. Now only today I spoke to an agent about a place I was after at £180000, but with all the vendors faffing around my mortgage offer expired, I therefore could not exchange, as of today I go in with a new offer of £150000 and I will soon hear if that is accepted, I think it will be. Now please don't get me wrong here, I am not out to brag about the property business but only to say that the truth is not always so obvious and that one phone call today may reward me the best part of a years salary.

As I say the truth is not always obvious.............. John...

Hi Electrohead,

I just read the review of the Electrocompaniet Emc1 UP CD player sounded quite impressive - quite analogue sounding and compares well with SACD. I wonder how it would compare to the new meridan 808 I think its called.

Cheers,

Steve.

Steve,

I don't know how it would compare musically to a Meridian 808.2 the meridian being almost 3 times the price of the Emc 1 up, at over £8000.

I have not heard one but I doubt the meridian would be much of an improvement if any at all judging by similarly priced players I have heard. That said Meridian Cd players are very good it would be interesting to do a comparison, but I guess it will be hard to find anyone to lend me one!

 All the best Electro.

Hi Electro,

Yes it is a big price difference. I suppose in the end you have hi end gear and you won't get a dramatic improvement maybe subtle differences.

People are always coming out with new gear saying its the best but sometimes the older stuff just sounds just as good or even better.

Cheers,

Steve.
