My first venture into home cinema was to purchase a Sony home cinema system. I feel the time is right to start upgrading and would like to upgrade the subwoofer first. Recommendations for a cheapish, but good quality subwoofer? affordability £150/250?
Tannoy's YST-SW005 for around the £100 mark is pretty well thought of, as is Mordaunt Short's MS308 Avant for about £150. Alternatively, Gale's sub range from Richer Sounds starts at about £40 and goes up to I think about £120. These will all fall short of the big low-enders from the likes of REL of course, but keep a lookout for AV Review's experiences with the brand new B&W PV1 - a spherical sub with some serious grunt. It'll set you back a few hundred notes though.
Gary ive just bought a kef psw 1002 for £200 and replaced my yamaha sub its not to big size and packs a good punch and is also down fireing so postion is not a problem
