Tamara, yes difficult to to point of impossible, but there is a difference, sound reproduction is measurable and is quantifiable, it is not a religion, nor should it be a belief, it is simply reproducing music. Get the numbers right and the result will be right, there is no voodoo involved at least in the realities of reproduction however there are many voodoos involved in the appreciation of the eventual outcome. What I am trying to say here is that many perceived 'improvements' are simply that, 'perceived' and that the 'look and feel' of an object may create a perceived improvement. This is something I have previously quoted as being 'tags' ie something that gets locked into the subconscious subliminally as being good etc. and then when seen sounds better however if not seen appears to make no difference whatever ie in a real double blind test.

Hi John,

You don't need to convince me.  I work on a cost/benefit ratio.  If I personally can hear it and the cost is reasonable I'd go for it.  If not I'd stick with what I've already got.  It is therefore  experiential or some would say subjective ( as it relies on on my own judgement).

Involved in the building trade.  Have spoken to people who've paid 10's of thousands for a kitchen that is poorly constructed, designed, fitted and showing wear within a months....when I would probably have designed and had made a bespoke kitchen for half that price which would have lasted them a lifetime..... Some people are gullible and associate cost with quality / durability etc.... not necessarily so  and vice versa.

Hi Bill,

Have you seen the programme on Itzak Perlman..A violinist who contracted polio at the age of 3.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dwfyt/Itzhak_Perlman_Virtuoso_Violinist/

You know I struggle with violins.  This is a phenomenal.  For the story..but the violin playing..I love it.

Shows him as a young lad... excellent! that's then. Now.WOW!

Hi stephen nicholas 2,

Had a listen to Dido, I like Thank You and White Flag.  They were hits too....most of the other work doesn't work for me...I am not sure why....perhaps loses the strength of her vocals in some of the slower numbers...but it would be rare to like everythingl.   Still working on U2....

Yes, I do like his work

This is perhaps my favourite:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmscFwj22vg&feature=related

in collaboration with Celine Dion. (unfortunately not the best recording)

Like yourself not a fan of opera..  I like him he is so unpretentious.

His own website http://www.andreabocelli.com/andreabocelli_eng.htm

Is playing Incanto from his new album and that is so much fun to isten to! Go it a go.

Hi Tamara,

On the Perlman link -

Although I've known of Itzak Perlman, a renowned violinist, for a long time I never realised he had polio! My late Mum suffered from this from birth and her left side was afflicted with the left leg and hand most affected. Due to her reduced mobility she needed help to shoulder the burden of the housework, shopping etc....and that help came in the form of myself

Everything was done manually in those days (not many cars)..........I did it willingly though....

The day she got me a 2-wheeled shopping trolley I could have kissed her...my arms were 3ft long by that time from hauling the bags (I was only 9 when I started doing all this)

Best regards................Bill.

Hi Bill,

That accounts for your beautiful nature...not the long arms,  I've begun to enjoy your more classical music.  No idea what I've  listen to but trying now to remember the  names to them.

Did you catch teh Jules Holland programme with the guitarists.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dwfyy/Later..._with_Jools_Holland_Guitar_Heroes/

Rodrigo y Gabriela : couple: mexican i think playing guitar..that was probably the best latin guitar playiing I've heard.  Were in al thrash metal band...wanted to wriite that kind of music but found everything became ...this.  Damien Rice found them busking in Dublin and asked them to open show..( I have one of his CD's "O").

But great guitar playing. some I didnt know but fantastic! plant and page, Santana, Buddy ? who inspired hendrix...

Hi Neil Austin,

Thanks for your list. Sorry for the late reply.  Been struggling with computer.  Serveris having problems in my area. I am familiar with a few.  Not really well enough to comment.  I'l look them out and tell you what I make of them..I'd appreciated it if you've got time to point out some of their best works so I can listen to those

Enjoyed Radiohead's MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/radiohead

Did you see the Jules Holland Programme?  Radiohead were in that.   Means they are rated in Guitar Heroes...

Hi Electro,

Thanks for posting Lizz Wright.....

Listening to The Orchard and Dreaming Wide Awake. Quite different and both amazing.  On Dreaming Wide Awake she does a fantastic cover of "A Taste Of Honey".....I have never really rated that song until now.   "Old Man" is probably he best track for me.  I don't kow if it's on lastfm....let me know if you have time.
