Great new vampire horror directed by David Slade.

This isn't what i would class as a stereotypical vampire flick and is a fantastic adaption of the graphic novel series. The vampires in the film are fairly unique in the way they look and act and rather than everyone being safe the following day as per the typical vampire film of course with 30 days of night this doesn't happen. The acting from everyone in the cast is better than most films i have seen lately. Josh Harnett and Melissa george play the lead roles and play them well.

The whole film centres on a group of people stranded in a remote part of Alaska which is in darkness for 30 days and they soon find themselves hunted by a group of blood thirsty vampires. Can they survive? Well if i gave away too much there wouldn't be much point in you watching it would there?

Another thing i have to comment on is the superb lighting, which you don't often find in many films lately.Overall i couldn't find much if anything to fault with this film.

The ending of this film is another masterpiece, it suprised me but didn't disappoint.

Hi SB,

Great Review, I will definitely search that one out.

I must admit I'm very partial to good horror flicks.  "Underworld" is a very unusual twist on the theme too. The reason it's so different from the norm is that it describes a conflict between vampire and werewolf "communities" and the assumption the viewer is led into is that the Vampires are the "good guys" while the Werewolves are pre-supposed to be the "bad guys", but it's only at the end that there is a complete juxtaposition and the audience discover they've been "supporting" the wrong side all along !  (Hope no-one hasn't seen this yet !!)

The only downside for the actors was that they were forced to do dialogue with their false teeth in all the time ! I could feel their discomfort !!

Kind regards, Bill.

I have never done a review before, so wasn't sure if i did it right. I also didn't want to give away too much as it would spoil the enjoyment of the film.

I love the underworld films too, mind you i am quite a horror film buff and would select horror and action over any other type of film.

Kindest Regards

Hi Kalsoom,

I am legend is worth a watch, i found it a bit of a strange film but i think thats because i went for a shower and when i came down it was already 20 minutes into the film. I will have to watch it again so i can give a proper review. The ending wasn't what i expected which was quite nice, i hate predictable films.

Kind Regards

SB

Haven't seen I Am Legend yet but have you seen the original version from the 70s with the late Charlton Heston? I think it was called The Omega Man - cheesy special effects as you might expect but very creepy and downbeat - could be worth watching them back to back.

I haven't seen the original and to be honest i never even knew it was a remake. I will try and source it from somewhere. Thanks for the suggestion!

Kind Regards

Hi "SB" All,

I won this Double DVD special edition, with comic book on this site,( Thanks AV Review)

First off the sound effects are in Dolby digital 5.1, and DTS 5.1 surround, and what a treat thumping drums placed at just the right time to set the mood, made me jump quite a few times.

AS sBrunette explains in her write up lighting is first class as most of the film takes place in the dark, story line was a little weak at times - but nevertherless this is one good film if watched with full surround.
