Anybody used the u.s site ,;BUY BEST PLASMA? I am thinking of buying a Pioneer 50"plasma from the Elite range currently not available in the u.k. Good idea or not ?

 Hi Paul, Have you considered buying the item from Hong Kong? Cheaper and they use the same mains system as us. The only problem I can see with "grey imports" is the Servicing/warranty issue? Kind regards, Bill.

Yes SB...the standard rate of VAT applies if the price of the item amounts to more than £20 or so, unless the IR & Customs are feeling in a generous mood.... (But the savings may easily offset that...) As Paul has noticed, the exchange rate for the US Dollar is always good these days... Kind regards, Bill.

...Last time I did this, RB, the Royal Mail demanded their pound of flesh too... (in exchange for collecting Import Duty)...strictly COD or into storage it went.

My pleasure SB. Some US products come with a rock solid 5 yr guarantee applicable in US territories only. Once shipped to Europe such warranties are void unless you buy the item through a kind dealer who is willing to take responsibility for the warranty upon himself ? Generally though, in the interests of planet friendliness, all domestic electrical products should be expected to work reliably for at least 5 or 6 years worth of average use. Sadly, it's a big ask expecting all manufacturers to accept the burden of such long term support when some of them know their gear is unreliable, which exacerbates the "repair or replace" dilemma even more. This is not an indictment of budget hardware by any means. 10 yrs ago I bought a £700 Denon dvd player - one of the very first in the UK - whose laser unit failed after only 30 months. The costs quoted for the repair were so prohibitive that I could buy a "next generation" player of superior capability for equivalent cost of the repair! Kind regards, Bill.

Hello SB nothing seems to last eh,well let me blow that statement out of the water,ive had my Krell KA100M monoblocs since new in 1989 and apart from a little glitch a couple of years ago which was rectified quite easily i,ve not had any problems whatsoever,in fact i,ve never switched them off,apart from when they were serviced,and my Revox reel to reel and Sony DAT have given fabulous service,i also had a cd transport and valve d.a.c for over 15 years till i upgraded to this Sugden,and i believe my tuner is over 25 years old,its a Quad FM3..............Regards.............Dave

The US tv's work on a different voltage and you would need a transformer, unless it comes with an internal voltage switch

Hi David, I have a real soft spot for Krell (especially as they derive their name from my favourite Scifi movie) During my last amplifier search I seriously considered them. How's this for long term foreign reliability : Nakamichi DT600 cassette deck purchased 1976 and the original rubber bands and drives are still working even though the metal slabs on top of the piano keys are ungluing themselves with age ! It did get a mid-life tape head replacement (record-replay) but that was it. BTW I have a Linn MC cartridge which is now 18 yrs old and still going strong !!! Kind regards, Bill.
