The bible supplied with this receiver is the most frustrating manual to follow or understand.

Has anyone tackled one before? I need lots of help to set up the receiver to my Panasonic plasma, sony PS3, sony DVD & Polk sound bar. I have asked many times of Harman Kardon here in the UK to help, but without even a response to my emails or phone calls. Hardly customer service!

What connections do I use between all units to get the best TVcinema images and audio?

What speakes have you got and how many?       Look at no: 14 - 15 - 16 on manual these are your speaker connections.-make sure you connect + to + - /   - to  -

Sub =if you have powered sub no:5 on manual is the pre out connection with RCA plug/interconnect cable.

SONY DVD use optical from DVD to input no: 28 on manual.

Play station 3 what connector are you going to connect with.

dont know what a polk sound bar is?

let us know then we can proceed further ?      Cheers ....Carl.

Do I disconnect the current scart cable from the sony dvd & connect an other to the the TV?

Shall do as you say with the POLK sound bar

Has the DVD got HDMI? if not keep scart where it is?

PLAY STATION hdmi to no: 38. then HDMI from amp no:37 -to tv. - sorry you have to use two HDMI cables?

ONCE YOU HAVE CONNECTED DOUBLE CHECK ALL IS CORRECT Before you switch any on?????

Hi Paul,

How we getting on? awaitng orders?

Show/hide user stats

Hi Paul,

I can see where this manual has stumped you - its the colour coding that is now new standard on all speaker outputs - ignore these and look for + and -- .

For sound set up you will need the HDMI no: 37 - from amp to tv to veiw on screen menu.

Hi Carl

The DVD has not got a hdmi, but has optical & coaxial & the av amp has a seperate subwoofer rca connection.

I have bought an s vidio cable for connection from the dvd player to the tv is this ok?

Also, the ps3 has an optical out!  Many thanks - Paul

Hi Paul,

DVD player audio you can use coaxial or optical - but optical cable you will find cheaper - there is little differance in sound.

DVD to TV - you can use s video - but if DVD, and TV ,has three Componant RGB sockets this will give better picture

Just found out that you will have to use optical cable for sound from ps3  to no:28, - on this optical in there are two sockets,   -  -     - as the HDMI cable will not carry sound into amp ?

how far have you got with set up???     ....Carl

Hi Carl

I have ordered a the 3 component rgb conect & cancelled the S vidio, plus the optical & coaxial.

Once here I shall attempt to finally set up, fingers crossed & shall let you know ASAP.

Many thanks - Paul

Hi Carl, Paul

was wandering if you could help

The equipment i have is as follows

HK AMP AVR 245

HKTS 5.1 with HK sub

HK DVD 37

Samsung Series 6 LCD

and PS3

Ive wired the the ps and dvd into the AVR via HDMI's and have HDMI cable from the amp into the screen. However cannot get any sound through the amp and speakers when using the dvd player and ps3 (only get t.v sound). Do i need to use an additional wire for the dvd and ps3 for sound? have tried to play abt with settings on the avr to no avail.....any ideas?

cheers

Hi

Thank you for your response, however, I have changed the avr to a Onkyo 606 and now have the perfect set up as a 7.1

I shall close this thread for now, Many thanks - Paul

Hi Kul,

Unfortunately the amp will not receive/send sound via the HDMI, it will receive via optical and coaxial, these will have to be set up on the sound menu,  Hope this helps ..........Carl.

Paul how did you get on with the speakers .

Hi All,

To sum up this amp: not the easiest of amps to set up, the manual for the guys amongst us that are not set up savvy, can be very confusing, - Whats the point in a amp having HDMI sockets if it does nowt for sound or picture ???? avoid this if posible.
