As a nation of tv lovers, why are we not asking the media Giants to give us discounts on the new digital boxes that we all have to purchase, or simply have no signal after switch over ? Myself i am all for progress, but other countries have given discounts to soften the blow, just why are we so laid back as a nation and allow this ? What about the people that are struggling to pay their licence bill, are we asking them to pay for more credit to acquire these boxes ???
No, I support it. We get more channels and keeping two systems side by side doesn't make sense. If discounts are given, the money comes from somewhere else.
The important thing is that the bandwidth that is used for terrestrial TV can then be used for other fun media type things (mobile TV etc) and the money that the government will yield from that will be used for the public good.
I'd support help for many pensioners in this respect but that's all. Generally you're talking about £14.95 now (Argos).
Thanks for that information. I have passed it on to the MRSC society Hopefully, the word will get out. I wonder how many people who do qualify haven't heard yet?
If you do know of anyone who might tell them. I am surprised at how little of this kind of valuable info doesn't filter down to those it's supposed to help.
Tamara, i only came across this by chance ? the clever government and BBC, to my knowlage are only telling the effected parts of the country, only six months before switch over, and only give a window of nine months to apply for the discounts, if you qualify ?? in the report it implies that government dept are to inform only help the aged or age concern ? this discount is for others that are disabled as well ? but is so confusing by its wording as it says you have got to be over 75 yrs of age to get help !!
Mind you looking at how much has been put up for this help, its no wonder we have not heard, before i stumbled on it.
Hi Chris, in total agreement on the plus side of the switch over, and looking forward to more advances in media technology, as a person that can afford to change with the times, i feel very fortunate to have the means to advance and keep up, but there are less fortunate people than us that should be helped and given the information, no mater how small we think the cost to be, £15 to some, would be more than thier total weekly shopping bill. ....Cheers Carl.
You've almost succeded in puttiing me on ahorse and getting me to ride! I feel like e-mailing all the organisations I can think of that might have members who'd benefit.
I know to many it's OK they already have cable etc. but for those outside of it's spread.....they need serious assistance. Physically and to understand it! I doubt if we could imagine the loneliness of people who are housebound without their TV's....
Having read about the recent switch over, and reading a little way back about other countries giving assistance to thier people, led me to into pondering on why i had not heard of the scheme, this is the reason for this posting, hope to post on MSN blog tell local surgery, libraries, etc, hopefully others will spread this info on !!! Gee up neddy ? lol
" a continuing physical disability which means you cannot go out without help from anotherperson and have a valid exemption certificate."Link to Only up-to-date site I found
Someone when at physio related this story: They hadn't been told and had been paying for months until someone else told them about it.
You have to ask your doctor for a FP92A, if you think you're in that category, in order to apply for the certificate!
The onus is on the person who is ill or their carer to ask for a form. You're not not automatically notified!
Simply if you know about it and how but no one tells!
This is not good enough ? these people should automatically be told, i for one think this type of misinformation to the not so well off is a travesty, well done and thanks for telling us.
Welsh people get free prescriptions and have done for about a year now, not heard if scotland get this yet, but if you think of it, if you pay your tax why are you paying again for some thing youve already paid for ???
I don't know, perhaps everyone would jump on the already creaking bandwagon, but if doctors have to sign the form that is sent off. I can't see a problem. i think MS society's own magazine ran an article on it when it was first introduced. But that only covers their members and there is no formal procedure that I can see or have heard of that notifies, my doctors or chemist for that matter haven't got a sign up saying so.
It is a shame. But in my case forewarned is fore-armed. I worry about the others that don't know.
I had been paying for my prescriptions about three years ago, and said to my pharmacist at that time, why i had to pay when i was already paying tax and insurance, if i was unemployed then i would get these free ! three days later i got a claim form from the chemist in the post, i did not use this but did not know this scheme existed before then ? should have mentioned this in earlier post but only just remembered ? think it must be the pills aye ???
