Hi cal, I think you just need to buy a dock for the ipod mini. It'll charge the unit and has a line-out on it to connect to your system. Has the amp on your Denon got a spare line in?
This is what I'm talking about: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001AU6Y4/qid=1116856919/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_2_1/202-4857048-9071060
You don't actually need the dock to connect to your system but just a 3.5mm jack to phono connection cable. However, I'd advise paying the extra for a dock for 2 reasons
1. It looks much tidier and makes a feature point of your iPod.
2. It regulates the output volume at the source (so that the volume can only be adjusted from the home cinema system and not the iPod itself)which in turn seems to produce a slighty clearer sound.
While I do recommend the dock it doesn't mean I agree with the ridiculous price of thing!
Well, I suppose, although it does make more of a feature of the iPod. I know there's loads of companies making these docks. Any ideas which do the best ones?
As you say there are a few 3rd party docks out there now but as far as I can see none match the simplicity and ellegance of the official apple product and the price difference is minimal. I think Apple should return to shipping iPods with dock connector, remote and ac adapter really. The arguement is that by not doing so they are able to sell the iPod more cheaply, I'd rather pay the premium and have everything ready out of the box. What does everybody think?
Agreed. Apple should definitely supply them as standard. Inceidently, I was in an Apple shop yesterday and they had loads of 'refurbished' iPods at cut down prices! Maybe it's a sign that a new range is on the way??
Following Cal's earlier message regarding the ipod and the denon home cinema system can anyone confirm whether the same would apply with the teac AG H300 receiver. I'm new to this and I don't think the teac has a 'line-out' the product is as follows;
Yeah you can connect an iPod into the teac. It is unclear if it has a line out but thats ok because you only need a line in! The teac has 6 line in inputs so take your pick, probably use the 'aux' one though to avoid confusion.
I too have a Denon DHT500SD and have tried connecting my 30GB ipod via a 3.5mm jack and phono cable to the video input 1 and 2 (there is no AUX input) but with no success, it just doesn't work! Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
