Fianl Cut Pro is the most popular Video Editing Software for Mac users. But FCP users may meet many issues about editing AVCHD due to incompatible format. Below is an example about Sony HDR-XR550 AVCHD Footages to FCP importing issue.

"Hi, I downloaded the FCP to try it out and see if it would work with my HDR-XR550, for some reason i cannot seem to import any files. I want to be able to import the files and edit my video. I have read a few threads with some negative comments and difficulties importing files. So, it would be great if someone gives a hint as to how to do it. I have played with it for sometime now, and dont seem to understand how to import the video. Thus, i assume i am missing something."

From the problem, we can know the user can't put any file from Sony HDR-XR550/XR550V into FCP on Mac OS X. If you are also a Sony HDR-XR550/XR550V user, you may be familiar with the importing issue. As we know, AVCHD is not a good codec for editing and Apple ProRes is the best Codec for editing in FCP including FCP 6/7 and FCP X. So if you want to transer HDR-XR550 1920 x 1080i HD videos to FCP for editing, you have to convert AVCHD MTS/M2TS to ProRes MOV- make XR550 AVCHD editable first on Mac OS X.

So how can you transcode AVCHD files from HDR-XR550/XR550V to FCP without any quality loss? It depends on the converter you are using. I have successfully used Brorsoft Mac AVCHD to ProRes Converter. It is professional in transcoding AVCHD files to ProRes 422 HQ with lossless quality and without any out-of-sync problem. Besides, it can deinterlace 1080i files, combine imported clips into one, add text/video/image watermarks, replace video tracks, etc. Thus it is the most effective MTS to FCP Converter for Sony HDR-XR550 and FCP users.

Step 1: Install the best MTS to FCP Converter and import your AVCHD recording from Sony HDR-XR550/XR550V to it.

Step 2: Click the Format box and you will get five options in Final Cut Pro. If you want the HD quality, ProRes 422 or ProRes 422 (HQ) will be your choice.

Step 3: Adjust video and audio's parameters according to your needs by clicking Settings. If you have no special need, the step is skippable.

Step 4: Click the button for Convert and you can start to transcoding/deinterlacing Sony 1080i MTS files to ProRes 422 immediately.
